327 365hp carb
I have a 65 with a 327-365hp engine with carb 3849804, list 2818-1, date code 4B3. It does not have a vacuum outlet for the distributor. Is this correct?

If memory serves me correctly there should be a vacuum port on the front metering block passenger side. It also seems as if I recall a 90 degree vacuum outlet on the drivers side of the carb. body upper that face forward. I will see if I still have pictures of that carb. if nobody else is able to provide definitive help.

No.......there should be a threaded hole on the side of the front metering block on the passenger side. It is shown in this picture with red arrow that says "this hole plugged".......http://www.bing.com/images/search?vi...=40&ajaxhist=0

The "what is this hole for?" in your photo is the choke hot air inlet to the round choke thermostat - the male threads on that die-cast port on the choke thermostat connect to a female fitting on a pipe from the top of the left side exhaust manifold. Bubba has been at your carburetor and installed the wrong primary metering block, eliminating the vacuum source port for the distributor vacuum advance line.
With the right parts on it, it should look like the photo below.

It was probably rebuilt in the past using bastard parts......not unusual. My 2818 has the correct primary block, but the secondary is not correct. By the way, I believe the correct number for the secondary is #4099. I think Holley sells a brand new primary block that is a replacement.....however, I think it actually has a nipple protruding from the block, instead of a threaded hole..... you just slide your vacuum hose over it. The problem is, it also cost about 100 bucks. Try putting a "want to buy" post in the Parts For Sale section of the forum. Somebody might have a 4094 on a shelf.

I have the same engine in a '64 with a 2828 carb (without -1). It is set up as shown in JohnZ's picture.
Surprisingly, on mine this turns out to be ported vacuum, not full manifold vacuum. Shouldn't it be the latter?

That port should be full manifold vacuum if you have the correct metering block for the 2818 Holley.
On later Holley's that port is mostly ported vacuum but not the mid sixties Holley carbs.
