Proud new owner of a 67' big block coupe!!!
Well, after nearly a year without a midyear to drive, I just brought home a 67' Marina Blue coupe!!! :chevy
She's in need of some TLC, but here's the scoop. The car is an orig. 427/390 coupe, marina blue/bright blue int. Options include, 4 spd., side pipes, power windows, and head rest seats. I was hoping to find a car with power steering/brakes, but since this car is not #'s matching, those two options may be added later.
I haven't taken any pics yet, but I am hoping to get some this weekend. I am also very curious to get under the car and check the numbers on the tranny. The previous owner thought the car had a M-21, but the throw is very tight and there is a slight whin when going down the road. (I haven't driven a car with a M-22 in it, but isn't this characteristic to a 22?)
I am thinking of first tackling the paint. The car was shot with Lacquer and it wasn't a very good job, it looks ok from 10 feet. Second, I might start thinking about getting the car setup as a Tripower. As I mentioned, it's not a numbers matching car, but very orig. looking minus the block. I have always wanted a 427/435 car, but don't want to pay the bucks for one, so I might try to go this route with it.
Well, I am rambling, thanks for listening and I am going to be posting alot and asking for some advice on everything.
Thanks,
Rob

M22 s do have a slight whine to them due to the 20 degree angle of the teeth. Minor is relative to the state of your hearing however. I have a Richmonf 5 Speed in my car and it to has the 20 Degree teeth. While not unbearable it is louder than the standard Muncie or BW-T10 tooth angle. good luck with the car.
If the car is a 390 HP you need a 400 HP intake not a 435 horse intake. I am currently doing a 3x2 system for one of my cars and may be able to point you to some parts sources and such if you actually move ahead on the 3x2. I have a 67 400 HP 3x2 manifold on my shelf but I ain't about to let it go. The car I am building is a rectangle port car but I am holding onto the oval port manifold, better appreciation that the market these days.

Congrats !
Or a worn bearing in the tranny, don't worry too much about that though
I had a tranny with that problem and used it for years, thinking the same thing as you (maybe M22). Does it do it in all gears? Mine was most noticable in 1-3.

Oman, thanks for the reply. If I have to piece the tri-power unit, then I will follow up with you. I actually know of a complete 427/435 motor (from the oil pan to the aircleaner lid, with orig. ignition shielding, wires, and everything... :yesnod: ), but I am not sure about plopping down the coin right now on it. It's been on this guys floor for the past 2 years after pulling it out of a 67' coupe, that's a whole another story though. If I don't get this motor, then I will probably go with a crate build and look for a 400 hp unit to put on her.
Thanks,
Rob

Re: Proud new owner of a 67' big block coupe!!! (Crazyhorse)
Thanks Crazyhorse. I was so jazzed while test driving the car, my memories are not exactly clear, but I want to say that I noticed the whin through all 4 gears. I'll check the numbers on the case and then repost. I can't imagine that this car would have a 22 in it...

my 2 cents would be to get it going mechanically perfect before paint. You will also drive it alot more before paint. It is easier to work over the fenders knowing it is not the end of the world. I intend to work every bug and kink out of my vette and then get her ready for paint. I know the paint look good in the pic but I have spiderwebs on back.
Congrats on car

Re: Proud new owner of a 67' big block coupe!!! (Daren Schneider)
Daren, thanks for the input too. I have thought this route too. I am considering atleast trying to sand/buff on the Lacquer first and then see what it looks like.
This brings up another question, what would everyone do with a Lacquer job that was less than perfect looking? Should it be wet sanded, or color sanded, then buffed?

RLH, congrats! on your new baby! You might as well set camp up in your garage, :yesnod: because this is where you'll be hanging. :yesnod: There is also a good chance, you will go hungry out there too, :cry so besure and stock it up with lots of goodies! :D Have fun out there and I have no doubt you will. I can't wait to see some pics, as would most of us. :yesnod: You have a  machine there and I know you are very proud of it, I would be too. :yesnod: :chevy
