Default 1967 Steering Wheel

This wheel was on my car when I bought it. Is it a Chevrolet optional wheel or aftermarket? It's slightly padded and probably vinyl covered.

Thanks,

Although it looks like a decent enough wheel.

Do you have power steering?

If you ever start looking for an original steering wheel, know that the 67/68 wheel is unique. Earlier mid year wheels will fit but they won't be entirely correct. Of course, with uniqueness comes $$$.

Yes it has power steering and telescopic column.

I like the look and feel of this wheel and it is quality built. The spokes are brushed like a factory wheel.

Cool. I'm guessing not an original telescoping column, either.

I like original C2s, but the OEM steering wheels are not very appealing. The best you can do and stay original is the optional teak steering wheel, or a replacement new teak wheel replica of the original.

what makes you think the tele is not original? ALL 67 got the plastic simulated wood wheel. there was no other option

Looking at it in the pictures.

So the teak wheel was not available in '67? Thanks for adding to my knowledge (correcting my ignorance).

nothing about the tele stands out to me as being incorrect. but I can't think of any way to tell with it installed and a pic from the drivers seat to say other wise.

and yes all 67 got the plastic three spoke wheel with a step

You may be right about the tele. I thought it looked slightly different from pictures I have seen of the '67 tele, but, as you point out, I'm no expert on '67s.

Was '66 the last year for the available optional teak wheel?

The column is original. I do like the looks of this wheel better than the plastic simulated one. I had a 65, back in the day, that had the teak wheel. It was fine just don't like the look of the plastic wheel.

Even though incorrect, I replaced the original plastic wheel in my '67 with an Eric Freeman teak wheel. It's gorgeous. Wish I was capable of doing work like him.

I read that the Feds banned the teak wheel option in '67 for safety reasons (splintering wood in the event of an accident maybe? I don't know).

That's what I always read and herd. And poor sales probably didn't help

That's interesting. I don't ever recall hearing that, but it kind of makes sense, in a nanny-government sort of sense.
