Default Removing 62 door lock ****

How do I remove the interior door lock **** in a 62 Corvette? There is no keeper on it as on the window crank so I assume it is just pushed on there but it will not budge. Trying to remove the interior door panel.

Thanks

It should have a clip just like the window crank unless a PO has glued it on. Keep looking.

If you're talking about the chrome **** to open the door, it's threaded on...Just turn it counterclockwise to remove! If tight, spray near the shaft with "rust buster" and allow it to soak a bit.

The **** I am referring to is the chrome **** that you turn to lock the door from the inside.

A catalog pic I looked at did not show a retainer so I assumed that it just pushed on but I cannot get it off.

Thanks

I use the shop towel trick, after I learned it here, works better for me than the $$ tool.
Put the rag between the **** and the plastic washer and pull the clip back on one side and then reverse and do the other.
I have the tool and brake adjustment tool and other tools I have used, but go back to the rag.
Don't use the wife's nylons even if they do work better.

It usually goes much more smoothly than the video shows; a little harder holding a camera to your chest with your chin !!

When you put it back on, put some heavy clear grease inside the ****, on on the serrated shaft it makes installing it much easier.

Just put the jesus clip in the ****, locate **** at correct orientation and give the **** a light tap with a small hammer, using a piece of PVC pipe notched at one side, to put equal pressure on the outside circumference of the ****.

I hope whoever owned your car didn't use adhesive on the **** shaft like one person here suggests doing.

The problem is if the "U" clip is too loose or the **** fit is not good - the **** will wind up in the floorboards the first time you slam the door. Ask me how I know...

It is not true that the door lock is threaded on for a 1957 C1. It has the same "omega" shaped locking wire that the door crank has, only smaller. I found that it was easier to get to than the crank (which requires a special tool to remove) and I removed the door lock with a small screwdriver under the top of the locking "ring."
