Where to have 66 antenna repaired
Where can I have a 66 original antenna repaired. It goes up ok however it does not come all the way down. Somewhere on the east coast would be preferred.

I recommend OEM Glass - Bloomington, ILL 309-662-2122 - They did a beautiful job on restoring my original antenna. Give them a ring. You will learn a lot and may decide they are the ones to do the work.

Re: Where to have 66 antenna repaired (66BBCoupe)
Has anyone seen a repro unit? Are they that much different from the original?
My current thinking is that you could not possibly have the original unit fixed for the cost of a new repro unit. However, one of the thing's I have learned on the rebuild of the 65 is that alot of the repro stuff does not look a thing like the original. Are the repro antenna's so far off that it's worth having the original refurbed?
Thanks, Andy

Thanks all for the input. Looks like OEM Glass are the only folks . They do a complete overhaul of the unit $300+. 3-4 week turn time.

..$300 for an antenna rebuild
..you ncrs-types are sure pumping up this economy....points are points, i suppose
...for the non-topflite crowd, the repop antennas are simple to fix (half an hour, no parts usually required, send me mail or search the archives on this topic)...the original motors are identical in operation but just use metal drum/gears and antenna wand (wire overwrapped steel cable which is easily brazed if broken)....john, it sounds like your drum ring gear was mis-set on the pinion (yes, your drive motor is identical to the headlight motor) and will be easily fixed (pure guess but i think i'm right)....what i can't do is to re-create that thermosetting ( i don't think you can re-melt it and pour it back on) resin weatherproofing over the motor housing.....hell, we could get some latex coating material, drop it in some dirt i've had in the yard since '66 and get your points back :D ....JUST kidding
....i'm sorry, $300...i'm stunned

Fortunately, this is not for my car. I in fact have a repo on mine. The point deduction was small -- 2 points out of 4500. The car belongs to a freind of mine who is preparing the car for NCRS judging on 10/13/02 in Jenkintown PA. It is a 66 convert 350 hp car. He just had a body off performed on the car. The exterior had recently been painted so the body was pretty much left alone. I had been bugging him to perform and operations test on the car for weeks/month and that is where we found many bugs. The two points should be no big deal however because his operationally doesnt work properly, the point deduction would be higher like 12. Very much of this car is still original and he would like to have the original antenna rebuilt. I agree -- $300 is a lot of money. You are correct in that the problem is the plastic/vinyl coating with overhauling the original units. He is also balking at the cost and more important the turn time would force him to miss the NCRS meet he is shooting for. He does not do any of the work himself -- farms it all out. I help by gathering info and finding parts. He is way too fussy for me to volunteer to work on the car.

Actually - it is $349 + shipping & handling !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Restoration Corrections is definitely going into the "antenna restoration" business.

If the top two sections are locked together get a good grip on the drive cable, put a 1/4drive on the top hex, and twist. Penetrating oil helps. Twist in the direction that will compress the spring around the core cable.
The NCRS DRiveline published my article on rebuilding them a few years ago. If it still goes up and down, take it apart and fix it. To paraphrase Bob the builder: Yes you can.

$349.00 PLUS shipping???!!!!! Well after all hold on and keep your perspective. Those precious NCRS points ARE expensive but worth every C-note they cost. Pass the pipe over here I need another hit.
People are dying of starvation all over the world and we wonder why Al Queda hates the US?
For that price they should deliver and install it. For that matter they should come over and remove it also. Highway robbery!

 WOW, lets look at this. There was another post on here about a 67 wow wow car ready for NCRS Judging that some felt was worth $47,000.00 Now looking up through this post I see the magic point number of 4500, thats $10.44 per point in value. So I see that used rebuilt 12 Point antenna @ $300 + Shipping getting you $125.88 worth of value. Thats equals 41.7% loss on your money. Didnt Emron and Worldcom just go through this. :jester
I think I will just drive mine :seeya

Re: Where to have 66 antenna repaired (Mr D.)
This has been a pretty good thread in my opinion. It is great to see some of the long time members contributing again.
What's even cooler is that we all seem to agree on this one.

Re: Where to have 66 antenna repaired (Mr D.)
Oman has it right, I rebuilt mine just to prove to myself that I could do it. Then I bagged it and put it in the basement. My car has a $14.95 JCWhitney replacement power antenna that collapses completely out of sight, and get better radio reception collapsed than the original does fully extended. The only time I ever raise it is to run a CB radio through an antenna splitter. :D
