Default Vietnam Vet

I got out of High School in May 67 enjoyed the summer then enlisted into the Marine Corp. Oct 67. I was in Vietnam Feb. of 68. My MOS was a M60 Machine Gunner. During Staging they said they needed some Bazooka men. Well I got OJT trained on the Bazooka real quick. Within a month they replaced my Bazooka with the LAW. Got to explore and blow up a few tunnels while there since I was the small guy in the unit. Well on May 28th 1968 my life changed. I stepped on a booby trap. Had 2 LAWS strapped on me. It blew the sight end off of both of them blew me straight up. When I woke up I was laying flat on my back with my right arm almost severed at the elbow, my right leg almost severed above my ankle. I was very lucky. Got medivacked out. Spent 6 months in the hospital. 3 months in Tripler Army Hospital in Hawaii and 3 months in the Naval Hospital in Corpus Christy.
I drive a 66 vette and a 2009 ZR-1.

Look at it this way, if she could not wait for a year, she probably was looking before you left. You are not the only D**k in the world.
A VW is a small price to pay to dump a HO that you can find on any street corner in any city. Even if she had been there when you came home, she would have left when you were fighting the demons that you brought home with you. It would have cost you half or more of your savings and property had she been there when you got back to the WORLD.
My hero (my wife) saved me when I got back to the WORLD. Not that it didn't scare the hell out of her when I hit the floor in the middle of the night yelling "IN COMING".
You have your revenge, think of what it would be like to have thousands of women (like your EX) that think so little of a soldier to leave him when they needed him the most. JODIE has them all, thank the lord.

U.S. Army (drafted Dec. '67); went to NAM in Jul. '68 as 11 Bravo. Stayed at Camp Enari in the Central Highlands, 4th Inf. Div. base camp, as a 71H30 (personnel specialist) until Deros in Aug. of '69. I bought a '64 roadster (red/red) in Sep. '69 for $1995 and still have it today. I am also still glad to be home.

U.S. Navy. I had command of a PCF (Swift Boat) in Nam 67/68, mainly based out of Qui Nhon. Two more 7 month deployments in a Destroyer Escort spent on the gunline and chasing carriers on Yankee Station.

Man, I mis-interrupted what he wrote! So where is the VW buried with the cheating couple still inside? I had that happen, went out on one long deployment and came back and some of my stuff was missing, I didn't care about her or where she went!

Australia was/is a lot closer to Vietnam, they appreciated you keeping NVA occupied, the thinly-populated land down under might have been another domino in line.

U.S. Navy '68 to '72. Member of the Tonkin Gulf Yacht & Gun Club aboard the USS Waddell DDG 24 and USS Jouett DLG 29. Took part in the Son Tay POW camp raid while on the Jouett (she was the Search and Rescue ship for the mission along with several other tasks).

Bought my first Corvette when I returned in May of '71. It was a yellow '66 roadster with a 427/390 and 4-speed. Paid $1450 for it!

Thanks to all you who served in that era and welcome home.
