GM used a L followed by two other numbers or letters to identify their different engine RPO options. Examples would be a RPO L75, which would be a 375 horse 396, a RPO L48 is a 300 horse 350, a RPO LS6 is a 405 horse 5.7 liter Ls engine.

It is worth noting that GM has re-used some of the most popular engine designations from over the years. Examples would the the LS6 which can either be a 405 hp aluminum LS engine, or a 450 hp iron big block engine.

The LT1 was an iconic small block engine for the Corvette in the seventies, but it also the current designation for the new base Corvette direct-injection engine. LS7, LT4, and several others have been recycled.

Here is a list of GM RPO codes. You can scroll down to the L section and see that there are almost too many engine RPO codes to count, and several have been used more than once.
