Re: Big Block in a C1 (BAD_SS_94)
Many many years ago a friend had a 454 or possibly a 427 in a 61 or a 62. I want to say it was a 427 the more I think about it. It fits but forget the hood working. He grafted a 65 / 66 BB hood blister onto the stock hood and it then cleared the stock Chevy hi-Riser. Did not look bad bit not great. The car was built in 70 or 71 and as I recall home built cars were less sophisticated then than they are now.
At that point in time I had not ridden in many Big Block powered cars and I must say it was an incredible ride. He had home fabricated headers (he did wonderful, quality work) but the car was impossible to travel any distance in due to the heat and noise.

Re: Big Block in a C1 (TheOman)
At one point in it's life my Vette had a big block in it according to previous owner. It was a drag car. The hood was cut out.
When I got the car in 1982, the previous owner had already converted it back to a small block.

It's beyond me why anyone would want that kind of horsepower in a 48 Chevrolet chassis, but if you gotta go extra fast a 383 or 400 CID small block with 500+ HP would be a lot easier to install. Probably a lot cheaper too.

It's not hard to do at all if you have the patience. I've got a 427 400hp from a '68 vette, original 4 spd, 411 gears. Why run a mouse when you can run a Rat?

Re: Big Block in a C1 (Big Block 60)
As mentioned, without question, it can be done, with LOTS of time and patience. Generally speaking, the end result is lots of power, actually plenty, but driveability will suffer to some degree, depending on the quality of your engineering. Guaranteed, you will need a greatly improved cooling system.
Also, as mentioned, a VERY well built SB400 (that can very easily be bumped up to 420ci without breaking the bank), with aftermarket heads (World or Dart, etc) which have AT LEAST 220cc (230-240 would be more desireable) ports and 2.05 or 2.08 intake valves, can produce VERY impressive torque/power numbers------------------------------------AND IT IS LITERALLY A DROP-IN BOLT-IN SWAP!

I also have decided to paint it electron blue with white diamond coves ( thats the color of the new esculades) I would also have a white leather interiour made up.
This is the car I plan on getting rid of to finance this project

Re: Big Block in a C1 (DZAUTO)
I'm with you, DZAUTO. I like to drive my cars and the 'gee whiz' factor of a big block doesn't make up for the extra weight, noise, heat and nuisance. A well prep'd small block with a stroker crank will give me all the gumption I need. I've seen too many guys build project cars which disappoint, for one reason or another. I know talking hot rod and practical in the same sentence doesn't work but I'd rather have a well rounded package which I'll enjoy than a car which inflicts misery on every ride.
Don't get me wrong- there's nothing wrong with having big blocks in a vehicle specifically designed to support that engine. Some platforms support a big block easily. I'm not sure C1 is one of them.
