Each year at 0600 we raise the 9/11 Memorial Flag in front of Fire Station 1.
I was there on 9/11. Our country can not afford to forget the events of that day or the lessons learned therefrom.

I live here in New York. On that fateful day I was at my office a stones throw from the City line. My Son-in-Law is and was an NYPD police officer who spent 3 months on the pile searching for his comrades. My Son is a police paramedic who lost his partner, a single mom, when the towers came down. I will never forget 9/11 or what was done to our country 14 years ago. I was back then (as I am now) an active volunteer firefighter and NYS peace officer. My heart bled for the lives of the First responders who perished at the hands of our enemies. I watched in horror as did the rest of the world as this seemingly unprovoked attack unfolded on national TV before our very eyes. The horror was indescribable. And when the dust settled and the cost was totaled in both blood and treasure our nation came together as one. No white, no black, just one. United... against a common enemy. Going forward I and my fellow first responders have spent countless hours training in anti-terrorism tactics. Learning to become more aware and in tune with our surroundings, reminding friends "see something, say something".
No.....I will not forget, nor will I forgive. Today is a day of remembrance. Please take a moment out of your busy day to remember those brave souls who ran in while others where running away from the dangers. Rest in peace my brothers, we've got it from here.

Yes, I was on the Wash DC metro under the Pentagon when the plane hit. Wife and I lost friends and co-workers. Later that day I helped setup the Dept of Justice emergency command center as the death tally came in....not a dry eye in the house...

I could see the smoke from the Pentagon from where I work. My youngest was two weeks old. I remember standing outside holding him the next day and the absolute quiet of no planes flying around here, thinking what kind of world he would grow up in.

The WTC was my favorite freedom marker in the western world. To take it down took something away from me.
I went to ground Zero three months ago and stood in silence to remember that tragic day.
I will never forget.

Burning Brakes
I was not far away, on the Jersey side when it happened. Saw it happen, felt the towers fall as I watched, and smelled the death and destruction. It is burned into my memory and my senses.
We need to remember, but more importantly we have to keep in mind that the old "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" does NOT apply in the middle east. There, the enemy of my enemy is just another enemy, not our friend. If we don't learn that lesson, we will be doomed to repeat it.
