Default pictures of old drag race cars.

a local drag strip had there reunion this weekend. for PA folks it was York US 30 drag way. it was held at a local air port. they ran there until 79. this area was a hot bed for all the big names in drag racing. They also had a car show going on as well

here are some pictures I took.

Great pictures, very sharp cars. Thanks for sharing. I have been looking for a 61 Pontiac for as long as can remember. Either there were very few built or a massive collector has them very well hidden. The style / design has so much class.

The Z-11 Impala (aluminum front end) in photos 10 & 11 belongs to a friend of mine (Hank Gabbert). Agree on the '61 Pontiac - every Friday night we'd see George DeLorean (John's younger brother, who was Pontiac's chief experimental engineer when John was Chevrolet General Manager) out on Woodward in his silver '61 Catalina (post, not a hardtop), also with an all-aluminum front end, the latest "X" version of the 421 Super Duty with aluminum headers, and McKellar's latest version of his "super-cam", taking on anyone who wanted to try him on. Those were the days....

Default Alot of hardcore street racers and sauvy drag strip racers quickly

Figured out that those trick aluminum headers actually melted at a predictable level of HP (heat).

PS so did Pontiac very quickly! The idea was a fail as they tried to make those cars faster!

I'd take that Black GTO.

Some great shots you shared with us. Thank you.

I was surprised to see Hank's car there. I didn't think he was touring it much anymore. The Hayden Proffitt car is a tribute done a few years ago and now owned by a Dr. in Eastern Pa. (the original burned to the ground). Ol Reliable II & IV are always there. Too bad Jenks is no longer there. I miss him a lot.

Yes John, "those were the days"!

John,
I came across a set of the Pontiac aluminum headers at a small swap meet in Eaton, Ohio 3 years ago.
They looked new but dirty and the guy in front of me bought them for $200.00. WHAT A DEAL...

That's about 10% of what they normally bring...
