I don't know if I said this before, but it occurred to me the subtle differences in people's DB car means even if I bought someone's correct bc/cc rendition of the old paint, I would STILL get detractors. Basically I'd be buying the label on the can. So I'm happy.

It's going to be a long weekend with few updates. Keep your fingers crossed for me and let's just agree that the key is to get good coverage and enough clear on it to buff! That way I'm not let down by a few runs or some trash...
Creative taping since I have to paint around the edges in the cockpit. Two layers upper and lower and rear compartment sealed off.
Let's talk about the relative merits of leaving the headlight doors in another day. Another year, even...

Great Job Benton, keep up the good work.
I am way behind you, the car is almost completely stripped, but as you well know, the sanding seems to never end. But I am following all your steps, which makes it an easier time for me, so thanks for that....
We just picked up all the paint, primer and other supplies, and the sample of the Daytona Blue looks awesome, I just can't believe the price for a gallon of this stuff, thank god I didn't want red, for some reason red is about 175.00 more. Can't wait to see it back to it's original DB, I have know idea why the PO painted it white.
Unfortunately I am at an impasse, as my buddie that's doing the actual painting snowbirds to Fla. for 7 weeks and won't be back till March. (Which is ok because it gives my fingers some time to grow skin again) But then we will be right back at it, he promised it will be ready for the spring.
Anyway, looking forward to your completed project pictures, good luck with the spraying, I hope it goes well for you.

I've been following your work and it's very nice. i just have a small recommendation. That looks like plastic sheeting from the hardware store. Dried overspray can blow off in pieces and sheets and wind up in your paint while your spraying.
Plastic sheeting from the Autobody supply store is treated to hold the overspray and there is a specific side to have out.
Good luck, looks great!

Well as often happens in life - the results were a mixed bag.
I'm too tired to give the blow by blow but suffice to say the photos of the car in a dim garage make it look fabulous. The truth is I need to show it to you all in the light. I think it's mostly pretty slick, a few runs in the clear to touch up and a little trash to sand out- nothing that isn't pretty routine in a garage job.
I can't wait to see it in the light of day!

Thanks for ALL the kind words, guys! I got it untaped and the garage clean up started.
It's been a while since I painted and I have a few observations-
1) shooting the car is fun, a big payoff after so much scut-work
2) the environment is often sub-par. Trash falling in the paint and the constant wish for more and more light is a big factor. By the third and final coat of clear I had lost all the ambient light, it was full dark, and most of my drips and sags came on that coat. It can be dealt with.
3). This is my LAST time painting in an attached garage. Period. It's also my first time doing so married with kids. The fumes are bad even being careful. Thankfully today is going to be 68 here so we can open up the house and garage!
4) my garage (of our nearly new home in suburbia) is now due for a remodel- epoxy floor to cover my sins, an actual wall color other than white, and can lights in place of the fluorescents. Realistically I'll be putting the car together for a while (and updating the thread) and by then it will be time to do the yard. I'm thinking garage remodel in the summer.
5) I'm pretty happy.
