Default Removal of surface rust from undercarriage

I finally completed my undercarriage surface rust removal project. I owe a "thank you " to Frankie The Fink for razzing me about my ugly chassis and motivating me to do it.

The chassis on my car was sound - but the car was parked for 30 years in a garage that would occasionally flood.. So the evaporation really did a number on the exposed metal.

I did this in 3 steps:

1) Wire brush - this removed most of the crud and a lot of the rust
2) Spray "Rust Reformer" on the metal surfaces
3) Light sanding and a final coat with flat black

Probably took 10-15 hours labor total. It's not perfect, but it's a huge improvement. (Yes, I know that upper cross member is still rusty - it was impossible to reach - that one will wait for the frame-off my son does!)

Now -- don't you feel better about yourself ?

Put some OSPHO in a pump up sprayer and you can work that nozzle up there and hit a few licks on that cross member if you get ambitious

Looks much better man. Proud of ya.

Nice. Mine looks like yours used to look. Now I have to buy another wire brush. Don't want to use a used one. I am sure I will wear it out thanks for the idea guys. B
