I put a 400 turbo in a 65 Nova SS that had a power-glide in it back in 1977. I had to make a new tranny mount and shorten the drive-shaft. I guess you have to do the same things here unless they make a trans mount now?
Let us know how u make out. It might be a good upgrade for me-I have a 63 with a power-glide.

Aluminum PG to TH350 should be same x member/trans mnt. location and d'shaft length. The spline may be different and require a yoke change is all. My concern's with the shifter

Use a short tailshaft TH-350 and everything fits right in. Front yolk change will be necessary. Send your PG shifter to Shiftworks and they will convert it for you OR you can purchase the kit from them and do it yourself.

Option two: purchase the Hurst dual gate shifter that I was going to use in my 63 from me and adapt it in. I sent it to Hurst for rebuild and it sits still shrink wrapped on the cardboard that was used when they shipped it back to me. I have the mounts and shift ball as well as the shift pattern plate. Everything but the cable and Shiftworks has the cable.

I wonder if a 63 corvette PG tail shaft housing [that has the correct mounting holes for the 63 PG shifter] will interchange with the 350 trans tailshaft housing?? If it does this would be another solution.
Brgds,

Does the kit convert from 2 to 3 speed? Convert it to mount on the TH350? Or both? THX

Have to contact Shiftworks for that info. They convert 64 and up shifters. Forgot you were working with a 63. I ended up using the stock PG shifter for a 63 and fabricating a mount that attached the shifter to the transmission tunnel. Then I used a piece of threaded rod, that I bent to fit, and used heim type joints at the ends of the threaded rod to attach to the shifter and the shifter arm on the transmission. Had to "feel" your way into the gear positions but could access all gears.

That Shiftworks is a good resource to know, just went to the web-site. Thanks for the info!

With both being a 1:1 final drive, and PG notorious reliability...just curious what is the need driving the swap?

Much better 1st gear plus a better spacing between gears. The before & after is like day and night. Especially with the shorter stroke 327 and freeway gears.

Are the modern 4 speed autos that much bigger? I know when I inquired on the tri-five forum about my 56 Belair, they all recommended going to the more modern trans if I was going to go to the bother to swap out the PG.
Much better performance and more importantly...better mileage by far.

I think the 200R's gonna be a better fit for a Corvette than the 700R. I'm told the same basic size as a PG/TH350. And they're strong enough to be in turbocharged Buick Grand Nationals

I drive my street cars gently, but found the '90s 700R4s (plural) to be wimpy and short-lived in my 500,000-mile (in 22 years) Suburban (350 then 383/2WD).

My original C2 Powerglide went almost 300,000 with just regular maintenance, no wonder the drag racers prize them, even manufacturing new versions as the supply of aluminum case PGs shrinks.

From everything I've read and heard, the 2004R (Buick Grand National?) is the one to use for performance driving.
