When would you use the word restored?

Exactly. Or change their opinion in mid-thread!

I knew I would finally get the right answer, at least what I wanted to hear.

Your car is not original. Why place yourself in such a liable position. Just say "restored to stock", "maintained in stock configuration", or any other non-misleading wording.

I could buy into this definition. Using the above, the seller could defend his use of the wording.

End the end, it's up to the buyer to determine their own definition.

Yes, I will come up with something like that. But going by what you guys say, no one in the world has an original car. Original meaning NOTHING has been replaced, belts, tires, battery, key, engine with new internals, headlight, taillight, part missing a screw, etc.

That's 'all original, no hit body, numbers matching, with original miles only'.

Well you can restore a car as original, as a restomod, or you can restore to a seventies custom complete with flairs, six tail lights, and molded headlights.

Is that like saying I restored by great grandfathers ax. Only had the handle replaced twice and head once. But it's still my grandfathers ax

But you can't. An object can only be original once. If changed to a resto mod or customized, it's not restored. 'Restored' means returned to a previous state.

Default how to represent (sell)

Just contact the local vette club, state your year and firm price and watch what happens. (In my case the buyer (one) came out to inspect same, set his own evaluation, met my price and BINGO sold!Took 3 days Regards, Abe G

Default Original?

Personally I don't like the use of original or numbers matching because everyone's definition is different. I'm with the crowd that says tell what's been done and what stuff is original and you have painted a clear picture for any potential buyer. They won't show up and say "you said it was original and such and such has been replaced!" Then you both have started off on the wrong foot. When I'm selling something I'm not looking to swindle anyone so I put everything out on the table and let the chips fall where they may. Don't want to waste anyone's time.

I own what I consider to be a VERY Original Car.
Original Paint - Original Drivetrain - Original Interior, Glass and Chrome.

My tires, battery and tune up components are accurate reproductions,
but I still consider the car "Original"

Is that picture of a 63 roadster the car you are talking about. If so the paint sure looks nice for 50 years old or even a year old..

Subscribed! This is fun reading. I won't opinionate about the OP's question as all of you have done a very good job already.

Rich
p.s. Rich, Your '63?.....Only if you transferred the original air in the tires after having them re-rubberized with the original nubs, saved and reused the original lead and battery acid in your restored battery, filtered and reinstalled the lubrication fluids, brake fluid and washer fluid, chemically restored your anti-freeze, internally bladdered your original coolant hoses, cleaned and reused your points, condenser, rotor, and distributor cap, and had your spark plug wires re-insulated by Packard Electric.......would I call it ALL original.
