1958 Barn find...for real
Thought I would share this with you.
With help from a forum member I was able to track down and purchase this 1958 Corvette that was purchased by the seller the year after JFK was assassinated (1964). Somewhere around the early 1970's it was stripped and sanded for paint, then it was parked. All the chrome and stainless was put on the shelf along with everything else. Very complete no hit car. Even has the rotted rebound straps still attached along with the spiral shocks, etc. California absolutely no rust (just dirt) frame. It has been stored for over 50 years in the same spot in a barn in Central California's farm country. Hardtop car complete with hardtop.
Here we are getting ready to roll it out to load it on the trailer.

So cool. I would love to have that car. I dream of A 58. Since I have a 98 & 08 I was thinking it would be cool to add 58 &68 &78. I know it wont happen but I think it would be A cool collection. I would pass on the 88 though. If I got a C4 it would be the later style. Getting all the hard to find 1 year only trim is so cool though.

Wow, a great barn find which sounds like it is NOT a basket case.

Looks like a fun project, if no frame issues. Paint and assembly=fun, correcting major body/frame problems=not fun.
Nice to see cars found out there that aren't total parts cars or just an old resto that was parked for years. Fining an unmolested, unfinished project from 40 years ago, is rare.

Here are some more pics:
On the shelf was some of the chrome, stainless and door panels. The table on the right has the original stainless cove trim as well as new (still in GM wrappers) cove trim he bought 50 years ago that he was planned on installing after paint.
Dash with original gauges. Odometer shows 11K miles and he claims it's original, but I don't know. Paperwork doesn't prove it.
This is interesting. Trunk board is termite eaten but still has the jack instructions and posi warning label.
Here's the rear frame member that runs across the back of the car. It's dirty but fine. No rust at all.
Started laying out the stuff in my shop. Seats and seat frames are in the car. The seats were recovered over the original vinyl so it will be interesting to see what it looks like when the recover material is removed. Later I used some Windex on the bumpers and they cleaned up very well.

What a great find!!
Nest to the 56-7 cars, the 58 is my favorite. I've always loved them!
