Probably not, as buffing would distort the vision,
but,
could you do us a favor and measure the thickness as exactly as you can,and the distance along the height of the glass, top to bottom, in the center and post it here?
It would be good info to compare to new windshields, which I believe are thinner, and sometimes skimpy on the height dimension.

Never ever throw out an original part. If you feel the need to replace it go ahead - but save the original for the next owner.

I think 60 LOF windshields were made with two pieces of 2.9mm or .103" with .30 PVB...THAT STACKS TO .248", they are now made with 2.1 mm or .078 which is a stack of .186".... About a 1/16" thinner
