Dipstick Length

Dipstick Length
I just had a 327 300 hp engine rebuilt and had a 6 quart oil pan put on it. I have the old dipstick and tube from the 350 that was in the car before. I put 6 quarts of oil in and the level on the dipstick is much higher than the marks on the dipstick. I want to make sure I’ve got the correct amount of oil and was wondering if anybody knows the following for a 6 quart pan:
1. What is the tube length?
2. Where should the high and low level marks be on dipstick?

So order a dipstick and tube for a 63-65 solid lifter SB and be done

63 and 64 had a shorter tube and dipstick. 65+ had a longer tube and dipstick.
(about an inch difference)
Tube length has nothing to do with the pan size. Oil height is the same.
I believe that the 6 qt pan is rated for 5 qts of oil, and one in the filter. 6 Qts in the pan is too much...which is what you are seeing on your stick.
The 350 stick should be just fine BTW.

The length of the dipstick does not matter.. it's how you use it that counts....

Putting six quarts in with a filter change is correct but as John said after you run the engine a quart will fill the filter leaving 5 in the pan. That is when you want to check the level on the dipstick.
