Default First-Timer's Hot August Nights review and picture thread

OK, just got back and I had a great time at Hot August Nights. This was a new event for me, and it was as much fun as everyone said. A personal opinion of events:

-Loved the various show & shines at the different sites and casinos. Atlantis, Nuggett, Harrah's , Circus Circus, in Reno and Sparks. Great fun, great cars.

I was amazed at all the fun and friendliness I encountered. Nobody taking themselves too seriously, being jerks, everyone pretty much enjoying everything.

I was also impressed at how well it was run and how behaved everyone was. The people putting the show on and the spectators have all been there before.

-Lotsa California vibe to the cars. Little if anything stock, anywhere. I saw 3 split windows and they all had Cragars or chrome on the engine or something. C2s and C1s almost all at least "Day 2" types of modifications. Very "driver car" culture. Fun crowd.

-the swap and car sale at that facility was excellent. Enjoyed that a lot.

- Of course the cruise in Sparks one night and in Reno on another was a treat. Exhibitors just having a blast. Well presented.

Took almost 200 pictures and couldnt dream of getting a good sample here, but Ill post a gaggle of them.

-Didnt make the drag races, oh well. The Mustang display was kinda weak. We didnt get into the live music but some people do.

-We enjoyed the multi-location layout, it made things interesting. Nothing was more than 6 or so miles from something else, mostly free parking garages. Never had a problem parking.

-Barrett-Jackson was great fun as always. Cars were mid-range mostly.

I did enjoy the Barrett-Jackson Cup competition... the Finalists were serious pro custom cars, very nice to see them rewarded so handsomely. Lotsa $$$ in awards.

-Like most large scale cruises, I dont know that I would take 3 flights out one way there again soon though, as Im sure Id see the same cars within a few years. I would still recommend the trip for anyone who hasnt been there. Very easy, not expensive other than travel and hotels.

I attended a couple of years ago..... too bad you missed the nightly entertainment....
nothing like Hermits Hermits..... lots of entrants but lots of others showing up.....a
great venue for Woodies and other vintage cars that melted with rust years ago.
Well worth the effort.

Steve - Great pics, thanks. I lived in Northern California for a real long time and never found the time to get up to H.A.N, my fault.
