L72 solid roller 427 Cam
We're rebuilding our motor in our vette and would like to know if there's a favorite performance cam for the street? Looking to upgrade for more power and better sound. Everything else is stock? Thanks

Go for a roller cam set up. To many flat tappet bb cam bad stories. I for one had three fail on me.

I would get in touch with him via PM, he is a member here. His handle here is StraubTech.
I have been very happy with the cam he ground for me!

I wouldn't be afraid of a flat tappet solid lifter cam as long as it's of good quality and proper break in oil is used and proper oil used thereafter. No expert but I've heard of limited life from solid rollers - second the suggestion on the hydraulic roller.

I have had no issues with the OEM cam in my L-71, but have used CI-4+ oil and (more recently) AMSOIL AMO for anti-wear protection. I also haven't found it to be high maintenance, either. Easily makes a full season (~1000 miles) of use without need for lash adjustment.

No to be a smart ***, but I didn't know it was possible for anything sound better than a stock L-72 or L-71.

iagree: Especially when you run em down to the setting that we used for performance usage, .020 intakes, .024 exhaust. If memory serves me the setting from the factory was 24 and 28. I switched mine out for the first design L88 cam, and it was really raggedy sounding!!!
