Dipstick tube size change in 65
I see in the catalogs that the dipstick tube size changed in 65. They got longer and wider 3/8" diameter. Did the block hole size change as well, or just the upper tube?
My gut says its just the upper part of the tube, but I wanted to double check before I order the wrong part. Im building my 68 block to appear as a 63.
BTW, is there any way to retrofit a canister oil filter on a 68 later block?

No, you can't retrofit a canister filter to a '68-up block.

When I bought my block (3959512) off craigslist, the block had a bypass valve with no threaded nipple for a spin on filter. I thought this part (GM 3959104 ) was for a canister filter?

I had a similar issue, Just bought a 64 filler tube. 1 inch shorter than the one I had that was broken. The old tube was also a little narrower towards the top. I assume I have a 65 block. not a corvette block 327 small block, I guess I will need to order another tube. 30 bucks by the time I got it to Ontario I did put on a screw on canister,

Here's what the block recess looks like for a canister filter, and what the bypass valve looks like (1/4" bolts) for use with a canister filter.

The lower (internal) tube was always the same length, but the upper (exposed) tube changed on some applications due to engine compartment packaging, and the dipstick usually changed with it. On Corvettes, the oil pan didn't affect the dipstick - 5-quart and 6-quart used the same dipstick.
