Has Your Son Fallen Into Your Corvette Addiction?
Has your son picked up the Corvette habit? I am totally guilty of indoctrination. We started looking at pictures of Corvettes not long after he was home from the hospital and by the time he was two he could pick out a Corvette from anything else on the road. Everything out there was either "car" or "Corvette".
That kid in the pic is 27 now and just taught me how to post pictures on the Forum. Still waiting for his 1st Corvette to come along. The closest he got was a '70 El Camino when he was 16.

I'm doing my best to keep the hobby going.

My 3 boys are corvette guys. One being born the Sunday of our corvette show at Bryner Chevrolet in Pa. and brought home from the hospital in a 64 vette convertible (when you did not need a NASA car seat to get them home! The other had a corvette restoration shop, the youngest sells vettes in Fla. My oldest use to sit in my vette and say do big smoke Don! I would do a burn out, my friends would crack up. He now is 36 and has 2 - 63 SW Cps and a 63 Resto mod convertible. The middle son 35 has a 66 BB 425 CP, The youngest 26 lives with mom and has a BMW I don't know where I went wrong. He still has time! I would not change a thing we had many years together doing the car shows and flee markets, and it is fun going with them now to shows and talking about there cars. It a love that will never die and we will never forget, I wish my dad was into it when I was young. He tried to make me give back a 57 chevy 2 door HT I bought from a neighbor when I was 15, can you believe that! I kept it and never looked back. Here is there 1st corvette, stereo radio, head lights, tail lights, brake lights, horn, elect start, mags and a flamed paint job.

My kid brother Dave comes along a few years later and buys a '70 BB Chevelle and is out drag racing every Friday and Saturday night on Steet Road (somewhere in your neck of the woods). Just goes to show ya that parents get easy on the last ones to fly the coop.

Well I realized the moment my daughter was born that if you don't include them they will not care. She is now about to turn 4 and she helps me with the cleaning. I tell her take this cloth and don't touch anything with it except this red paint and if you drop it leave it and let me know. She does great. I think it's working out great because my wife asked her where she wanted her birthday party and she broke down crying when my wife told her no you can't do it at the car show.

My son will be thirty in a couple months, and just became a father himself. He has a passing interest in cars, and has owned a couple Camaros and a Firebird, but no Corvettes....yet.
Both of my kids use to love going to the races with me. Watkins Glen was always their favorite track. My daughter is grown now too, and working full time, and is annoyed that she can't get away, to go to Watkins Glen with me anymore. Both of them worked swap meets with me, when they were younger, and still have a pretty good knowledge of 63-82 Corvette parts.
They both drive American cars, and my son hopes to have a 55 Nomad someday, while my daughter wants my 71 El Camino. I figure that has to be a sign of good parenting?
The picture below is my son when he was about 2. He's sitting on his Corvette, in front of the Trans-Am Camaro, that I crewed on in the 80's.

I enjoy my '64 and my son drives his '61 frequently. Now I am working on an '81 and that's my grandson's favorite. He is only 11 right now but I can foresee three generations of Vette drivers in our future.

I would say all 3 of my sons have an appreciation for Corvettes...non of 'em can afford the vintage years I'm driving 'cause in their present station in life...mortgage, food on the table and collecting splinters at soccer, football and baseball supporting their kids (my grandkids) passion/interests, it does present a challenge.
That being said 2 of them have acquired the "car nut status" I have...1 owning a '68 Camaro convertible with the original 327 2 barrel and factory 3 speed on the floor that just finished an LS1/6 speed transplant from a 65K mile 2004 GTO. The 2nd son owning a '68 Pontiac Lemans convertible with a factory 4 speed coupled to a Pontiac 350 (all original). So he decides to pull the original motor and drop in a Pontiac 455...what a torque monster!
Here's a pic of both of them in the '80's helping me pull apart my '5:
A shot of Scott's GTO "Clone":
A shot of Chris's '68 'RO:
My youngest son John does appreciate these old cars but at this point in his life he can take or leave it (choosing to leave it LOL).

Hope you guys don't mind me sneaking in from the C3 section
I have never worked on a vehicle with my dad. He has no idea how to wrench on them at all, and takes them to a shop to have anything done with it.
However, it is all thanks to my father-in-law. I have been with my now wife since high school and he is a car / Corvette guy. He had an old '69 El Camino that he trusted me to drive and I was hooked. From there, anytime I needed to work on any of my cars, it was off to his garage to work on them together. Change out a water pump in a 91 Ford Ranger, ok, opti spark in the 96 Z-28 (never done that before) why not? Calipers, pads, brake booster on the '76 Stingray, let's do it.
As I mentioned, he is a Corvette guy and has had many over the years. He currently has a 1990 that he has owned for about 20 years now, and that is the first one I got to drive and I was hooked. Not just the C4's, but the heritage and history of the Corvette. My current '73 is my third, and it won't be the last, but hopefully I can keep adding to the collection rather than selling and finding another
I also have plans to pass my knowledge along to my new daughter, she thinks the car is hers anyway as the interior matches her eyes

My dad has never owned a Corvette. I bought my first Corvette 8 years ago and have owned 9 since then. I currently own 5 (C3,4,5,6,7) and hope to add a C1 and C2 in the next few years. However, my dad has now decided to buy his first Corvette...a 1954! We're finalizing the details now and hopefully he will have it in a week or so. Looks like my dad has fallen into my Corvette addiction now!

My son has no interest in Corvettes. He bought one once and then sold it 6 months later. He collects Ducati and Moto Guzzi motorcycles. Oh - he has also put in a request for my long hood 911.

No & yes
No, he didn't get into Corvettes, but, he did pick up the 'old car' hobby, but, its MOPARS. He has 7 of them. I gave him the family vehicle, a 73 Dodge which I had bought new in 72, when he was born, when he turned 15. Since then, he's acquired a 93 Viper, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, and several others, including his Chrysler convertible from the 80's, which he's had since his sophomore year in college.

Here is a picture from Father's day a couple of years ago. My oldest boy, foreground, went to the dark side and purchased a Spitfire, but at least it is an old car.
My youngest guy has the red 64 and my friend Steve has the silver coupe.
You can not get any better then this.
Joe
I working on my grandson, here he is helping use fix the cars.

GRipp73, what a cutie!! You're right, those blue eyes DO match that interior. Ya' gotta' be proud!!
Plaidside, I'm with you about passing that baton. You've captured a GREAT picture of your grandson ready to wrench!
My effort just might have hooked these 2 grandsons of mine, Alex at the wheel and Dylan.
Enjoy!
