Default W-Info 1957 Speedometer help needed

In the process of building a resto mod, and need to find supplier/restorer that could convert the present mechanical unit to electronics for use with an LS engine and a 4L60 tranny, and convert or modify the face plate to show speed in KPH rather then the MPH normally seen.

Does any one have any leads or ideas where this labor could be farmed out to. ?

A big thank you, to those of you who will take the time to address my concerns.

I had Redline Gauge Works of Newhall, California convert my mechanical tach in my '57 to electronic, and I was very happy with the job they did. They returned the original mechanical set-up to me, of course. I can't speak to the KPH conversion since I didn't do that, but they are very good and reliable.

Try Seattle Speedometer. Here's an article I did about them.

Another option might be to use a unit like the Cable-X ( http://www.abbott-tach.com/cablex.htm ). This unit takes the electronic output from the transmission and converts it to a mechanical output suitable to drive your old speedometer. Another advantage of the Cable-X is that it is almost infinitely adjustable, meaning that it can be adjusted to operate correctly with any tire or rear axle ratio. The only downside is that you have to find a location to hide the unit close to the speedometer. I used one of these in my wife's '62 and my '59, locating the unit behind the driver side kick panel.

As far as the speedometer face, look around for a vinyl engraver who might be able to do it. On my '59 I wanted a 200 MPH speedometer and I found an engraver who said he could do it on a piece of clear acrylic. I send him CAD drawings, JPG files and measurements on just how I wanted it laid out. I went to pick it up and somehow he had gotten the radius of the arc for the lettering way off. When I showed him he was wrong, he got angry and said "well I guess I just can't do it" and walked off. All of the engravers I talked to seemed to have trouble with placing the numbers on an arc.

Anyway I ended up making my own speedometer lens using a clear piece of acrylic for backing plate and printing my numbers on a thin piece of clear acetate using an old Hewlett Packard pen plotter using a Sharpie permanent ink felt tip pen

Bob,
Nothing to add but good to see you are still at it, are you going to be at Carlisle this year?
