In bending the front flange, which effectively shrinks the front-to-back tank size, is it best to bend it up or bend it down?

I know many here use Quanta tanks but just went to their web site a minute ago and got this - not good!

I'm going to work on it some more myself. When that fails I'm going to get one of the guys from our '61 work group to come over and help me get the tank out. A picture of the driver's side strap from the bottom of the car follows. Basically the bolt cants to the front on both of them. Interestingly they don't match the rest of the paint work on the bottom. Are these perhaps repro parts? Should I paint them?
I thought they might straighten out as I tightened them down - wrong - and I even popped the rivets on one of the plates trying (looks like the rivets have been replaced with bolts/nuts on yours - probably a big NO-NO for NCRS)
I had the same problem with getting a socket on the bolt head as well - for the same reason - the strap 'face' is not level. I recall using a larger washer helped this.
I'll say it again... I "fine tuned" these issues with dead blow hammer

Has anyone ever used a Spectra tank? Here's the link to their firm. What's interesting is that they're a Canadian firm. Canada seems to be producing a lot of sheet metal stampings these days. Here is the email. techinfo@spectrapremium.com

It looks as if the Spectra tanks might be the way to go then. Now we just need to find out which vendors carry them.

Thanks for the update. Per the numbers on mine it's supposedly a Spectra - and it obviously has fit problems. From the oral history of the car I believe the tank to be only about 18 months old.

Two things here. I'm just tired of people selling parts that don't fit. They either know it or they don't care. I want to buy parts from people who actually care about what they sell.
I know that no one at NCRS will look at the tank. I was one of the very first members in NCRS.. I would just like to put the cover in place properly. I shouldn't have to manufacture my now part after paying a parts supplier good money.
You'll notice that our "friends" the vendors are staying out of this discussion. They won't even vouch for their own parts.

I was told that NCRS looked at the gas tank but after reading the judging sheets I couldn't find this. Very nice to know that if I just get the cover to fit that I'm good to go.
I borrowed an incredibly thin wall drive socket from my neighbor (who has a gorgeous tasco turquiose '60). I was able to force this over the bolt head and loosen the two bolts but it was an incredibly tight fit. When the tank is too big front to back the clearance at the strap bolts in crazy tight.
Are the bracket assembly located on the underside (GM 3717810?) correct? Or are these some kind of repro? Or did someone just use screws rather than the GM 455624 rivet?

Anyone know where they get their tanks from? Or, do they build them?
By the way - Corvette Central and Zip Products have not replied to any emails about this problem.

I wonder what the restomod guys use. I never hear all these fitment problems from that crowd. I'll have to ask Mike Coletta tonight at Old Town...
