61/62 beater body panel question
Hey guys,
I'm just looking for opinions on my '62. I've been stripping the paint and everything is looking ok except for the '61 body parts. I'm considering just replacing the fender panels and the door skins so they will be proper for a '62 rather than replacing the entire front clip. Any thoughts on that?
Also, if I replace just the panels can that be done correctly while on a body dolly or should I leave it on the frame for that.
Thanks for your help.

I just put side fenders on a 62 and I was not happy with the quality of corvette image parts, the fit was bad and the people there where not much help. I would look for NOS or used if you can find them.

I agreed with this statement and the one or two that make decent panels charge a ton of dollars, much more than what they are really worth. If I had to do it again I would repair rather than replace.

Put the body onto a straight frame and go from there. Also, I would inspect the dash supports and make sure these are okay too. Then it was moved to a rotisserie to do the finer details. Also, make sure to use the same trim, windshield and bumpers so everything lines up. Get press molded panels and not hand laid panels. You might want to get the front clip with the rockers installed. Its expensive to ship but will come out nice. Then again you are only talking about the cowl area so might not need the entire front clip. How is the rest of the body? Also, you can find door shells for 62'. My opinion is to go that route instead of re-skinning the doors. Then sell your doors.
