Default 64' center console repair kit

How do you remove the original sections and replace them with center console from one of these kits? Ashtray is obvious, but what about the large plate through which the ashtray is inserted.

Or what method would be good to use to remove scratch from the plate with the ashtray and shifter indicator? Thanks.

I think I understand you questions. Start by removing the side panel on each side of the radio, then slide the console up and out. Put the shifter in either 2nd or 4th for max clearance . The components have adhesive on the back of each. Just peel the old ones off the console, clean up any leftover glue and attach each new one. Reinstall console. Dennis

Sometimes the original plates and glue is tough to remove. A small screw driver to get it started and small vice grips pull and twist, clean glue with thinner.

I used a hair dryer on high to remove that glued down insert. Get a corner started, and then grab it with pliers and slowly pull while applying heat to area.

For good measure place some blue painters tape down low on both sides of the dash.
