Okay heres my delima. I installed a newer engine,Does not have the vent for the draft tube in the rear of the engine. Also I have a 1110985 distributor which is dated K222 which would be Oct. 62 dated for a 63.Has No vacumn advance on it,but is a tach drive. Can I go off the back of the carb. to the oil filler tube for the pcv system and plug the 2 fittings in the front of the carb????

You have to have an inlet and an outlet, the crankcase routed to the air cleaner. It has to be able to draw air in, so the gasses can circulate into the carb and get burned. Without a PCV on the block, you need one in a valve cover or other fixture that allows gasses to rise out of the crankcase. The fitting in the oil fill tube is 1/2 of the system, generally the part that draws gasses from the crankcase into the air cleaner (on the 63 and older its reversed).
So if your oil fill tube is plumbed with a PCV valve and routed to the base of your carb, you will be sucking gasses from the crankcase. (Good). Now...how do you get air into the crankcase to complete the circuit? Some drill a fitting into the intake, some use valve covers with holes and an open breather.... You just need an open breather somewhere....

Lots of threads discussing PCV...

You dont NEED vacuum advance...but itll run better.
Plumb the valve cover and pcv to the carb, and the fill tube to the air cleaner and you will be ok.

So I either need a new valve cover like a LT1 or drill a holeand install a Pcv if I understand correctly. This is a dual point dist.was it used on 63's?? I think Bubba was in there.

If you just drill a hole in the valve cover, you may end up sucking oil into the intake, without some kind of oil separator in the cover. You would be better off hooking the pcv to the oil fill tube, and putting a breather on the valve cover.
