Best way to perserve a block?
I recently picked up a large journal 512 CE engine block with the early PCV setup for a future engine build.
What is the best way to preserve this block and prevent rust? Guessing this will set for the next few years before I get around to it.

Spray it down with a oil, or a wd-40 style spray and place it in a heavy plastic bag and store it in a dry location

Spray it with Diesel, bag it and tag it...

Grease in the cylinder bores, lifters bores and all bearing insert surfaces. Oil on everything else, and as mentioned, store in a bag that is sealed after you add a couple desiccant packs.

Thanks, after I do all the above wonder if a jumbo space bag sucked down with a vacuum would also help keep it dry.
Either way I need to buy a bag big enough or wrap it in plastic and duck tape. Can never go wrong with duck tape and WD40.

First ensure that it is clean and dry to begin with.
Coat it with heavy grease - cosmoline* if you can find it.
Cover it in a heavy airtight container with enough desiccant to absorb any humidity contained in the air within the container.
*I did a search and it is available. This stuff is used to preserve military equipment in storage for decades. Items properly stored in cosmoline will not rust.
