1961 Carpet Under the Seats
Just finishing the interior but want to make sure that I "cut" the carpet where it goes under the seats the best. Can someone post a pic of this area of the carpet with the seats out just before installation?

I never cut my carpets at all, the carpet just shoves under the seats, over the seat seat tracks.

I have done many kits in c1's. You dont cut he carpet under the seats. Just lay it down and cut a hole where the seat bolts go. On C1, you don't make carpet flaps over the tracks. Just cut your 4 holes by running a hole finder tool or sharp screwdriver up the holes from underneath so u know where thy are exactly. Paint up your tracks nice as well as your bolts. It I'll come out nice.

It is my understanding that originally the carpets laid over the front seat track brackets & mount bolts, with no holes anywhere. I always lay the carpet over them. Long ago I had my '59 judged and lost points for holes through the carpet and tracks above. This true for 56 to 62 AFAIK.
Additionally, you cannot poke up from underneath as there is a fiberglass reinforcement/cover running across the entire width of the front mount bolt areas.

'61 Carpet - over or under?
A Corvette C1 expert happened to stop by yesterday. He said carpets were underneath the seat attachments. Given this I used a very sharp awl from the underneath and then used my pencil soldering iron to burn a hold through the carpet. This technique produces a small hole that doesn't have any frayed material to catch on a bolt and cause a carpet snag.
My newly recovered seats with AK foam and covers were "taller" than the old covers and very old foam (they were actually '62 covers which I have no use for at this point) so I had to adjust the deck lid up but at least I have the correct seats now. Everything looks good except that I can't get the drivers seat all the forward since the carpet is in the way and I can't get the kick panels underneath the sill plate - likely due to have the wrong door edge trim. Will order that and hopefully that will correct the problem.

'61 seats and carpet
Interesting point - and of course I didn't think about looking in the judging guide (dah). Mine is identical to yours. So even an expert can be wrong. Or is there room for disagreement on this issue because supposedly the AIM implies bolting through the carpet?

'61 Carpet - over or under?
The under location bothered me more from an engineering perspective that you're putting something which has no mechanical strength between the seat and the frame than it did from a looks perspective. Since the next judged show isn't until 5/3 at St. Armands think I'll get as many viewpoints as possible. Of course I've already burned two holes through the passenger side but better to quit now than possibly wreck the other side.
And of course I'm trying the get the car ready for judging even though the 30 year old paint isn't the best.

'61 carpet picture needed
Can someone post a pic of how they have the carpet cut so that fits over the seat plate (approximately 3" x 4")? And if your car has been NCRS judged as correct that would be fabulous (I'm only aiming for Third Flight with the current paint and all the other very original but scratched and worn pieces on the car).
