Make sure your sfi flywheel doesn't require a special clutch disk, most do, or make sure you order a matching disk.

You guys are awesome!
Sorry, thought you said you already had an OEM 168-tooth flywheel.

Its the local speed shop that told me to use the 168 tooth instead of the 153. I think it was recommended because it would work with a 10.5 inch or 11 inch clutch but failed to realize the starter and bell housing issues. And I didn't know any better either.

Looks like the mclead uses a 11 inch disk.

That Mcleod flywheel is a 153 tooth, 10.5" clutch, uses external weight kit 560222.

Your saying I could use this with my existing 10.5 clutch.

I did notice that some sfi flywheels require a different clutch plate.
Thanks very much for your help and patience everybody.

I have a machine shop putting together a 350 shortblock. Eagle 383 stroker kit. I will install Clay smith hydraulic roller cam 235/239 and 520/510 approx. My kind brother has given me set of afr 190 cc heads. I also have gold roller rockers. Clay smith roller lifters. Arp kit for assembling everything. Winters intake. I haven't got a carb yet but a friend of mine has a rebuilt holley 780 with vacuum secondaries that I may look at.
This all started with my brother giving me a set of awesome afr heads. I was originally going to install the heads on my 327/300 hp motor but I decided to keep the original motor intact.
It sounds much like my build although mine is 406ci. Cam specs are similar as are heads and valve train. I'm running an Edelbrock dual plane with BG carb and headers and was expecting about 425-450HP with similar torque numbers. If yours is indeed as much as 500HP I may be underestimating mine. Is that number an estimate from the shop that's building it?

I used this website as a reference too. Combo 15 is fairly close to my setup with 471 hp and 524 tq @ 5500 rpm.

Thanks, very informative. All I can say is I'm glad I sprung for the RS600 instead of the RS500 tranny! Based on those results I could easily be over 500HP considering the extra cubes, Trick Flow heads and 10.7:1 CR. It really doesn't matter to me one way or the other, it's just a lot of fun to drive! BTW, I used my original flywheel off my L79 and a LUK pressure plate and clutch disk from Keisler to match the tranny. I did have to go to a hi-torque starter, my stock one just couldn't turn it over once warmed up with over 240 psi compression.

I'm glad you found it informative. What are you using for carb cfm. Intake and exhaust. I was also very curious on your cam specs. I ordered a cam that may be way too much for my setup.

I have an Edelbrock Performer and a Barry Grant 750CFM with mechanical secondaries. I have long tube Hedman headers, not sure of the pipe diameter. The cam is Xtreme Energy 282, hydraulic roller, 230/236 duration @ 0.50, .510/.520 lift. I like it's performance, idles smoothly, almost too smooth . Idles down to 800-900, smooth acceleration from just off idle up to 6,000. It really comes alive when you press on the loud peddle! I can't step on it until most of the way through second or it just lights 'em up. Easy to smoke 'em in third too.
