Thanks for these shots of the car, and I must say of all the small flares I've EVER seen, these are the nicest! Very subtle. If they are as well built as they are finished, leave it alone..... is what I say.

Thanks for all the feedback! I really had thought I'd hear nothing positive with the flares, guess I was wrong. You guys are great.

I think they look good. Very subtle. If you like them, keep them and use your $$ on other projects. If you'd like a completely stock car (which I think is a bit overrated) then you should take them off some day.
If it were mine, I'd put a slightly wider tire and aftermarket period style rims on it and drive the crap out of it!

I also like flares but it depends on which kind of flares. I like the ones that are considered mild flares but as already mentioned, it's your car, if you prefer stock body lines then you know the drill. By the way, what's the condition of the original fenders underneath those flares? When I got my 65 Coupe back in 1985, it had flares and actually looked okay (well, barely okay but it was what I could afford) but once we took off the flares, the fenders underneath looked like they had been in the movie 'Chainsaw Massacre' and a complete new front clip got added to the mix.

I'm not usually a fan of the flares that round the wheel well. However, these are subtle and the car looks great. Reversing the mod can run into a nice investment as mentioned above.

If you aren't going for a judged original, I'd leave it alone and enjoy driving it for a few years. If you get the body perfect, you maybe scared to drive it. Enjoy the car

I might take advantage of the flares with some wider Ralleys or Torque Thrusts

[/QUOTE]

Those flares look exaxtly like what I have on my 64. Do you know anything about them? Manufacturer or anything?

I bought my 64 from a guy who had owned the car since '80, and as far as he knew it was flared sometime in the mid 70s in CA. Seems to be pretty decent work so always wondered if I could trace the work back to a shop in CA.

Thanks

I'm the guy who put them on so I do know a little about them! They came from Acme Fabricating in SanFran, CA., and they were called the ZL1 flares. Excellent thick fiberglass, and they weren't just flares, they were the whole fender door to about 2in. into the bumper area, and to the top bonding strip in the back. And almost as big on the front. Acme went out of business in the 80s I think.

Same car as it appeared in Corvette News Feb/Mar 77.

Here is mine from 25 years ago as I bought it.

60's series tires all around with offset dayton wire wheels and spacer plate created recessed lugs (bitch to put on a wheel). But it really looked low, wide and mean.

FFW 25 years and I am now going back to original since all #'s match. For more on that agony look here...

All the C-2's I own have flares. I've owned the 66 since 1972. I put them on back in 72 and they are still on the car. --- Ken

OP, leave that beautiful blue car's bodywork as-is, the look will grow on you!

Take off those wheels and tires and put them in storage until you decide to return the fenders to stock. You need to take advantage of those flares with some wider rims and tires.

Seeing your car in CN inspired me to put J & D Corvette 1982 C3-style flares on my '64 and shave the turn signals 30 years ago. Still love the look!

There are Flares, and there are Flared Fenders & 1/4's.

Before.

After.

VS stock

Keep the Flares. I agreed a nice set of wider wheels and tires would help look. Would add a more aggressive, I need those Flares. Still ok as is.
