Need Locksmith in San Gabriel CA area
I somehow lost the Glove Box key... for my 65
I have blanks but need to find a locksmith in the local San Gabriel CA area that can make a key from the Glove box lock...
Everyone I've called is Mobile and can't do it...
Anyone local know a good locksmith that could handle this ??
Or anyone have any other ideas for a new key
Thanks
Tony

Can't you cut a hole in the glove box, then open the door? It would be cheaper to buy a new glove box and lock set than call a lock smith.

Are the glove box and spare tire lock keyed the same on your car??
There is a guy named Pete Lindahl in NM that can probably help you. He is exceptional with Corvette locks and keys, and is well known throughout the hobby. Let me know if you want/need his contact info.
If you can get into the glovebox (unlocked) you can remove the existing lock and send it to him for keying. I believe that the original code is also stamped on the lock housing…..assuming no lock or key changes from original.
If you use the same key for the spare tire lock and can unbolt it and send it to him, he may be able to get a key code from it.
FWIW. It is probably worth a call to him.

Yes, Spare lock is the same key..
Spare lock is off the car and Glove Box is unlocked
If there is a number code, could I sent that to him and have a key made from that number ???
I'm sure I could also remove the glove box lock

I think its 'possible' to just remove the glove box door by removing the screws from the bottom...
Remove the spring/hinge screws first, then the others...your door 'should' come off with a little wiggling to get the lock out to the hole...
Then just take it to them for a re-key...
Its worth a try...

I have the code books and the cutter if no one can decipher the code, find a locksmith that has the cutter, I can supply the numbers for the 6 cuts necessary for someone near you to complete the key with his cutter

I removed the lock from the door
Do I need to remove the cylinder from from the lock?
looks like a small tab in a small slot and if pressed looks like cylinder could be removed...
How many digits is this number?
Thanks

Yes!!
Great shop and very nice guys there. They were very helpful.
I had blanks, but so did he, i was surprised..
This is an old area, and he has all the old stuff on hand
He made several sets for me. I should be ok now, unless i hide them too well. I have been known to do that before
Thanks for the tip. Saved me
Thanks everyone
