Well, since the rest of the emblems did not have a nuts on the back of them and they can be taken out by hand I figured maybe its a good time to secure them. More orange prematex I left it on there didn't want to mess up the paint. I took out the front emblem I could not get the the one nut up front where the V is on the emblem no matter how hard I tried I could not get it to fit. I figured its more secure with two nuts on it I think it will be ok.
The side emblems on the driver side no sweat easy to put on the passenger side not so much...I tried very hard to contort my arm to get those little speed nuts on. I finally took off the access panel underneath battery. I have it off however, my little arm hurt getting the one nut secured on the emblem the other post on the emblem was hidden behind expansion tank and heater fan very very tight inside.
So, I got my big *** on top of the fender trying to get my arm to contort enough to reach the emblem post. I was completely on the fender groaning and moaning trying to use my ratchet wrench to put on that speed nut. My girlfriend came to the garage and saw me on top of the fender my body sprawled on top of it. She said what are you doing??? What does it look like? Looks like you are trying to mount your car...(Yeah that's what I'm doing )
I managed to tune out what g/f was saying and kept going with my wrench ratchet and nut and managed to get it the nut on and tighten it I'm not sure why I was so lucky I could not see what I was doing and had to "feel it out"
Then my neighbor came screaming with her kids over to my garage. They said a snake was in the their house. So, I went to get the snake little "black snake". They wanted to kill it. I chose the "catch and release method". I also save turtles that try to cross the road too but that another story..
I'm tired time for some sleep mounting my 63 vette and catching a snake can make you tired..

Good job!
Two things, I hope I don't see you in the nexts Hooters calendar in a mounting fender position!
The second is I wonder if permatex will hold when securing your cape to your back!

"Mister No Shoulders" (that's a snake for you Northern types)...is just a fact of life in Florida. I have a floating dock that holds my jet ski and it seemed about once a month last summer as I straddled the nose of the ski to push it off the dock to launch I'd look down between my spread legs and see a water moccasin curled up half-asleep where it had snuck under the warm jet ski body for a nap. Always very exciting...
I guess if I got bit in "the boys" I'd find out who my real friends were...

Yep, snakes are just a part of Florida life. We have a "guard snake" (Black Racer) that lives in the bush next to the front door. Keeps the rift raff away.
When I was teenager, I took my dad's '64 impala to the beach. I was wearing flip flops and on the drive home, I felt something. Looked down and there was a snake slithering across my feet. I nearly wrecked the car. I'm not afraid of snakes but I don't like to be surprised by them either. To this day, I suspect it was one of my buddies who put the snake in the car.
I must say that I find your fender fetish more than a little disturbing.

We really need pictures here, mounting and all. Anyhow, have you tried threading the speed nuts on the emblem on the bench? It opens up the nut a little so it does not fall off. I also use a 1/4" deep socket. Good luck. Jerry

The Emblems on my 67 Coupe haven't felt the force of a mounting nut since 1972. I put a dab of weatherstrip adhesive on each stud and place it on car. Holds firmly and when I wax the car I take them off and reinstall them when done. Al W.

I don't want to turn this into a "I hate snakes" post but.....I live in a very rural area of Northern Westchester County in NY. I recently had a company come in to change my home heating oil tank. When one of the guys asked me to take him to my oil burner so he could make up the new fuel line connection, I took him into the house through the garage. He saw my 60 Vette and my 1956 Belair and spent some time commenting on how nice the cars were. Then when I took him into the basement and over to the furnace he said quite matter-of-factly "Oh....I see you have a snake". I must have jumped about a foot! I guess I hadn't been down to the furnace since last year when the service guy was here, but now there was a 4 foot long snake skin hanging from one of the water pipes. Now I won't go into the basement and usually open the garage door and wait a few minutes before entering. I now keep all the car windows rolled up and I look in the cars before entering. I HATE SNAKES!

I love your respnse when she asked you what you were doing! I'm not brave enough to catch a snake buy I also try to save those turtles. About 10 years ago I was standing in the middle of a busy 2 lane road dragging a snapping turtle across the road with a tree limb. He was a biggen

Its funny now but not at the time....about 10 years ago I was changing valve cover gaskets on an old Plymouth Duster in the fading daylight. I was cleaning up and reached in to the grass to pick up what I thought was the remains of a piece of black, thin valve cover gasket I'd scraped off. It was a small black snake. Its surprising how high you can jump even when you are bent over at the waist...

I have no tips about snakes, but I do relative to emblems. I put a tiny piece of painters tape around the shafts on each emblem and press them home. When it's time to wax, lift them out, wax, return to position. Dennis

The terms "mounting my car" and "speed nuts" - conjures up the image of several different problems.................

The mounting the fender gave me a new idea!
How about matching up new potential Owners with Cars, in a kind of speed dating thing!

Not sure if this qualifies for a comment on this thread (OR even on this forum) but I DID find this in my basement utility room 3 years ago. I guess he (or she) was trying to get warm by laying on the hot water line. Measured 54 inches from head to tail.............................after I put his head back on. Sorry ASPCA / PETA but I don't like snakes.
This HAS to be THE MOST off topic post I've ever made on the forum.
