Default 66 327 Water Pump Identity

I have a GM water pump with the following numbers on it:

T GM 2
3782808
L 28 6

What does all this mean?

I'm considering rebuilding it if it is correct for my C2.

That pump was on low-horse non-bypass 327 Corvettes for many years; yours was cast on December 28, 1966. It's correct for your car (unless it has reinforcing ribs on the driver's side) if you have a cast iron intake.

Thanks John.

Your pic shows a 3782608. Is that relevant?

Yes, it is. There's no such thing as a 3782808 - it's 3782608.

Yes... I thought that 8 might possibly be a 6.

But then I came up with this:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...at=0&_from=R40

I'll go sandblast the housing to see it more clearly.

Thanks again.

He can't read (or type) casting numbers - ALL of the "808" pumps in that auction are "608" pumps. There is no such thing as an "808" pump.

The pic below is a 608 I bought from Bill Mock for my ’67, dated D57. This one hasn’t seen much corrosion and the casting number font is larger, but you can see there isn’t much difference between the 6 and 8. The telling sign is the width of the arch on the top of the 6, it’s a wider arch than on the 8.

Be careful sandblasting your pump, you may remove even more of the casting number.

If you look closely at the left center of this one...

http://i58.tinypic.com/14jask9.jpg

I believe the left vertical is solid, while the right vertical center indents.
That would be the sign for me that it's a 6.

I'm good with it now as a "6".
Thanks JohnZ for the nudge in the right direction.
