People have officially lost their minds over split window coupes!
If the bids are real, this is ridiculous. This entire car needs to come apart to fix it and there is no way that seam in the roof will not show back up after it is repaired...Crazy! Not to mention, the VIN has clearly been drilled out on the left hand side. I'm just amazed!

And he say he doesn't have all the one year only glass trim....so figure another $5K for that front and back. Won't even talk about the birdcage.
Why should he lift the reserve - he had 8 days to go and bidding goes on...

The faint of heart, unskilled and under financed need too stay away from this car. If anybody has the skills, resoursefullness, and patience such as our own steveale ('65 restoration) can turn this car around and make it nice. The initial buy in price is real important. Dennis
Yes, I see the glass more than full.

I thought they had lost their minds in the late 70s when I was offered 7500 bucks for my SWC after paying 1100 for it in 1970. My kids are Sure glad I didn't sell it!

He wants out of the car so he puts it on ebay and has a friend make a chandelier bid up to but not over the reserve. That's my guess.

Lots of expensive parts still missing.
Keep the prices going north. I don't have his total bid in two complete cars. Like one " dealer " on the forum....... ask a ridiculous price for a parts car and watch someone drop off the cash.
Isn't this hobby fun ????

I agree. If the birdcage repairs were finished, i could see that price all day long, but not in its current condition. I see a shop bill of 10 grand just to get the cage finished and the glass glued back in place...that is before stripping the primer off the rear end or doing any prep work.

Most of us have agreed for many months that 63 coupes are way overvalued. Sanity will return to the 63 coupe market, like it does to all collectibles.
In the meantime, expect to be highly entertained by the ads and sales of 63 coupes.

The SWC prices are prob somewhat "toppy" right now. But I think they will hold their value for decades to come....mine isn't going anywhere...

He has friend(s) bid up the price with false bids right up to what amount he wants to sell the car. Somebody comes along and thinks that there is all this bidding and the car must be worth it so he tosses another bid in. The car suddenly meets his reserve and the bidder is stuck overpaying for junk. IMO the second highest bidder is extremely suspect as a chandelier ...4 total bids in the past 30 days...all on this car. Happens all the time on ebay, especially with those auctions where the bidders ID is kept private.

Crowd mentality. Its easier to do something when you see other's doing it. The seller just needs one person to outbid by $100.
Not related, but just to show what some people will do, I had my '63 chassis for sale on ebay over the summer. Some knucklehead was trying to sell his chassis and wanted to know what my reserve price was so he could value his, so he bid on mine until it hit the reserve price. No one else bid and he was stuck. I contacted him looking for payment. He calls me back starting off with "I'm the idiot that bought your chassis on ebay...."

That car was on ebay a few months ago. Dealer, or should I say, some super duper self-proclaimed restomod/pro-touring shop in Ft Worth had it. I knew about it before it hit ebay but the guy was talking a line of bs about how great the body was and all I needed to see was one bad pic of the drivers door jamb.....that sucker was pure swiss like I've never seen before....as you can now tell from the pics.
I kinda feel sorry for the guy since I'm sure the previous seller ripped him off.
Always lay eyes on something or this is what will happen.
I'll steer anyone away from that shop if I get the chance.
