Start a thread here in the C1/2 General section (not in For Sale) asking "Whats it worth?" and provide as complete a description as possible, especially of tough to see areas and details, along with pictures. You will get a pretty good range, accepting that the car is not seen in person.

Another thing to consider is roadster vs. coupe. IMO you will want to drive a roadster way more than a coupe unless it's got a/c, and it's still more fun till it gets to be 90 degrees.
The disc brakes are so much better than archaic drums, as long as you know you have good calipers, theres no problems, the car stops straight and quick when disrespecting idiots cut you off ! I would set my sights on a 65 or 66 roadster.

You certainly can find a nice car for that price but you have to move fast with cash.

Here is what I bought last year for $40k:
1964
Coupe
365HP
Matching Numbers
Matching Paint
Very nice driver
Bone stock except for radiator and a few minor parts.

It was not the deal of the year but exsactly what I wanted and that's what I would suggest. Hold off and get exactly what you want for a fair price.

I bought my '65 coupe(327/350hp) last September for $36K. Older frame off restoration. Take your time and don't jump at the first thing that comes along. Look out for rust !!!!!

Disc brakes would be a nice addition. I do NOT want a side pipe car. Had enough of that noise in my ears when I was younger.

I am thinking the ideal car is a 300 hp, automatic, P/S, P/B, A/C car that looks and runs good.

A 250 hp car would also be fine.

No black or silver cars. The 63/64 silver blue is a nice color.

Are you interested in another 56? I know someone who has one, and it has had father/daughter ownership since 1958. I have not seen it, but I believe it to be a decent driver car that a few NCRS guys helped restore a number of years ago. I think you might be able to do $45k or close to it. Anyway, I should see them a week from this friday and I can get you their contact if they still have it. It's for sale but not advertised.

Definitely interested in discussing it.

56-67 are one of my areas of interest.
