First vette
I bought my first vette in 1972 at age 19. I traded my 65 GTO and with $1200 bought my 68 coupe. The car was my daily driver in Brooklyn for years. I still have the 68 after 40 plus years. I bought my 66 about 10 years ago. I wish I still had the GOAT. Jerry

Burning Brakes
Bought my first Vette in 1970 when I was 18 . Guy was in front of me at a car wash and couldn't start his 58 (290HP Fuelie) after washing the motor. I gladly took it off his hands for $850. He gave me all the spare parts he had including two complete motors. One a 59 two 4BBL and the other was a 57 Fuelie. After owing it for several years I sold it back to the original owner. Got tired of his calls about every 6 months trying to buy it back. Had sold both spare motors by then. He gladly gave me $85 K for it. Not a bad investment . Car was never restored. Normal service only.
Just sold my home this summer and while packing up I found a couple of parts I forgot I had, an 653 NOS intake and a set of 58 trunk spears still in there wrappers. A GM parts man friend had sold both items to me for $350. because someone bought them and never picked them up. The intake is in AZ and the spears are on my old 58. Dave

I was fresh out of the Army in 1972 and at age of 24 purchased a sweet little '63 roadster for $1,400. We restored that and traded it in the spring of 1977 for the '66 Nassau Blue coupe that we still own. Nice topic....thanks for the idea.

Bought my new vette in April 1973, exactly 10 months after I graduated from college and I could save enough money for a down payment. I had it figured out exactly to finance the car for 18 months only ( at $ 105.00 per month ). The bank could not believe I only wanted a 18 month loan and did not turn me down. I was a good risk if I defaulted on the loan. The car was worth $ 6,700. I was only 24 years old.
I still own today this car 1973 Red T top 4 speed after 41 years. Best investment I have made.

I was 17 when I bought my first Corvette, a beautiful 1961 white with silver scoops, red interior 230 HP 3 speed stick, 2 tops.
Second week I owned it while cruising around with my girlfriend got pulled over by a local cop ----------- wasn't going fast at all, so was puzzled and scared to death ! ---------- I rolled down the window as the officer approached and he said "LOVE your car, can I see the engine", which I gladly obliged, then said he had never seen one close up and dreamed of owning one someday. He then shook my hand, thanked me, and drove off !!!
This was in 1963 when you hardly ever saw a Corvette on the street.

23 when I bought a 62 in 1966 from a used car dealer in Mill Hall Pa. just outside of Lock Haven. I paid 1900.00 for a triple black ex fuel car with a 250 horse 327. The vinyl top had been replaced with a cloth top that was well worn by the time I purchased the car. It had a chrome roll bar that must have been 2&1/2 or 3 inches in diameter and slotted mags on the front with factory wheels and caps on the rear. It had been sitting for time enough to rust the u joints ( squealed like a pig under acceleration) and the metallic brake linings. I was lucky to be in town and driving slowly when the metallic material on one of the shoes disintegrated, locked up a rear wheel and brought me to a screeching halt. Once the minor stuff was fixed I drove the wheels off for three years and sold it in Chase City, Va. for 1500.00.

I was 25 when I bought a 1964 roadster for $1800 in 1975. It was a driver but not original for a 11 year old car. 327 was replaced with a 283, 4 speed T10, Camaro seats, needed a new top and body had been repainted. I rebuilt the rear end and all new parts in the front end. Built a 1966 327, 365 HP that I had from highschool days. Sold the car for $3600. in 1978. Top dollar for a perfect 1964 was $6000. back then. I was in CT at the time and even drove it in the winter.

In the summer of 1967 I was 17 and purchased a black 1960 Corvette in Philadelphia for $875. It was in rough condition but a driver. I was so excited my grades dropped and my father took my keys away for the next marking period. That never happened again but I loved that car. My father had a 1954, 1963 and at age 81 purchased his last car was a 2003 50th anniversary Corvette. I have that car today. Steve

Bought C1
I returned home from Vietnam Jan 1970 and bought a 1966 396/350 SS Chevelle. A few months later I saw a 1962 baby blue with red interior conv/hardtop, 283, 3 spd on floor. Traded for $200 and had to finance it. Still have the purchase receipt from the local Chevy dealership. Was 21.

I was 21 when I bought my 61.That was in 1968 after I finished my 2 years in the Army.
My older brother owned it first, he bought it in 1964 at a used car lot in San Antonio that specialized in Corvettes. It was the first car and the only Corvette I've ever owned. Have never even been tempted to sell it, so yes I do still have it and drive it regularly, yesterday was a nice warm day so I had it out with the hardtop off.
How it looked in 1967 when my brother and friend was checking it out.

I was 23 in 1972 when I was discharged from the Navy and sold my '67 Mustang fastback and bought a yellow '66 roadster (hardtop only) 427/390, 4-speed, with A/C, P/S, P/B, P/W, etc. for $1400! Two weeks later I was able to purchase a complete folding top for it for $35 from a "thrifty ad" in the paper (try to do that today).
Kept it for a year and then traded it for a '65 coupe with L-79, 2X4 barrels, headers, side pipes, and 4.11's. Way more fun!

Bought my first Corvette, a 62, when I was 11, which was the year Rt66 came out. I loved that car. My disposable income didn't catch up with the increased valuation of the full size versions for another 51 years but I did briefly own a 92 when I was ~52, and owned a 64 for a couple years when I was ~60. my full size 62 will now be with me for the duration however.
