225/60/15 Firehawks on 7"-wide Western 30 spoke turbines. The Firestone Z-rated SZ-50 Firehawk is probably the best tire ever made for street use in our size. Too bad they no longer make them in our sizes. I got one of the very last sets from the Tire Rack for some ridiculously low price when they discontinued them.

Using a 15" rim with no trimming of the spring end or wheel well lips, if you could get everything exactly right (i.e., backspacing and camber), you could squeeeeeeze a 245 in there. A 235 goes in without too much problem. The 225's are a cinch.

This applies to '63-'64.

It's a different story for '65-up due to the front and rear track increase caused by disc brakes and wider wheels - '65-'66 moved the tire out another 1/4" per side, and '67 moved the tire out another 1/2" per side. There's no way anything wider than 215 will work on a '67 without risking breakage.

Go for it, if you like the sound of breaking fiberglass. People forget that midyears were designed in 1960, around 6.70-15 tires on 5.5" rims, and are extremely intolerant of wider/taller tires.
