Default 1960 clutch pedal rod question

The clutch pedal rod has a seal and a seal retainer that screw into the firewall. Do they screw in from the engine side of the firewall or from the clutch pedal side? I have seen it both ways in different catalogs and this page on my assembly manual is not legible. Also, does the hole in the seal/retainer run horizontally or vertically? Again, I have seen it both ways, but vertically seems to make more sense. Thanks.

Vertically. And screws installed from the inside of the car.

But it appears to be dependent upon the year, which is probably why the catalogs show it different ways.

A good recent discussion is here

Thanks guys. Previous thread clears it up. Doesn't really matter - some years it went inside, some outside (but hole is vertical).
