Default Motorama Fastback #2

Had to post these pics. Trial fitted the roofline to the Canada Fastback. Fits good. Just need to do some trimming so it sits perfectly in place. The body tub is a good, solid piece. We have a new front end to install and then the roofline can be installed permanently. Notice the windshield height is at a good level. We added 2.250 inches to the A-pillars.

Was that because evidence points to the original car's A-pillars being taller?

YES, When Bob and I made the initial two molds, I was never satisfied with the overall height. That's why I went to all the trouble of installing and modifying a roof panel on Mike's car, so I could make a revised mold.

We now have what I feel is more accurate to the GM car.

Brett and I are going to make the Motorama Top for my car as soon as we get a special order in to help us make the critical areas better and makes them turn out a little better. Not that what we did to the above top was bad by no means but just like every thing and every one you make you want the next and the next to be better and better then the last one you made. Brett and I strive for perfection on this car. We want it to be as close to the original one that GM made back in the early 50's. Not like one that has kind of been built by another guy who has the roof way to low so you can not set in it if you have a seat in it without bending your head over and looking out the windshield under the steering wheel ring and our trunk lid door will open like all trunk lid doors open not like a suicide opening trunk lid door. Hell let it not be closed and latched correctly and when the wind hits it while you are driving down the road then I am sure it will be ripped off like opening a tab on a beer can. PUFF and it is gone or like a T top on a car that was not latched down and the wind hitting it at about 60 mph not a good idea for a design that someone did who tried to recreate this car and have no idea what they were doing.

Let's not get too caught up in any other cars out there. Let's just build a quality product and enjoy the experience.

Hey Brett, how 'bout some pics of the building of the top and sides? What kind of forms/mock-ups did you use? Styrofoam?

I can't take credit for the initial mock-up. It was done by a talented pattern maker in northern IN. I designed the windshield opening and doors before hand. After that work was done, Bob Mangold and myself made two molds from it. Bob pioneered the funny car business back in the late 60's.

Mike Terry and I modified the initial design quite extensively in order to get the design where it is today.
