Odometer on '61 quit turning
The odometer on my '61 was just turning to 10,000 miles (actually 110,000) and it stopped turning just as the 9999 was going to 10000.
It has worked without a problem since I have owned the car. The speedometer portion works OK.
Any ideas as how to fix it?

Sounds like one of the classic C1/C2 odometer problems. Dirt combined with dried grease will cause the odometer to either freeze or create so much resistance that something else gives (usually one of the gears). It sounds like you’re going to need to disassemble it and have a look.

Have your entire speedo and tach rebuilt.
Two months after you replace the ODO, either the speedo or tach will quit working, and as you will find out, taking the cluster in and out is not a job, you will want to do again, real soon.

I took the cluster out and had the tach and speedometer rebuilt several years ago. I know it is a frustrating job. In case it is the odometer drive gear, I see that Corvette Central sells a metal one for $11.95. Have any of you tried to replace the gear yourself? Or do I need to send it out?

If the odo gear has damaged gears, then the main gear is likely the same. The main gear/magnetic bar can be changed, but you'll have to have it magnetized and calibrated. Replacement main gear magnets available today are NOT magnetized. They are a different shape as well.
Below is a example from a '67. After I rebuilt it with new odo and main gears, it was dead. Realized the magnet wasn't alive.
Called Bill Harrison (Harrison Speedometer) and brought it over for his magic. He's about an hour from me. He has all the good stuff to make these work. Worked perfectly after he finished it up.
If you're going to take it out, best to send it to the shop for full rework. This is one of those tasks you want once and once only.
