Nice collection of pics, nice that you have that history. How long have you had the car?
My car was apparently a drag car, back in the '60's, before it was wrecked in 1969 or 1970. The remnants of wheelie bar brackets, badly bent leaf springs at the front hanger, and cracks on the underside of the frame rails behind the front suspension cross member back when I bought it in 1974, indicated drag racing and wheel stands.

The letter was written to me. Notice the progression of the different classes. For the most part the engines were 292 CI or less. 272 was the smallest when running F/MP. When the car rans D/MSP or D/MP it was when the car had a steel box welded to the rear crossmember that contained something like 70, 7lb bars of lead. One day in Englishtown Dick set 4 records in two different classes. He set the first two in D/MP, then "torched" out the box on the bed of the truck. Got the car re-classified C/MP and proceeded to set both ET and MPH in that class. Car still looks great today. The car had less only around 10,000 miles when Dick bought it.

To add just another note. The car was originally an F.I. car. A fuel line to the injector started to leak gas and caught on fire. When Al (Davidson) stopped the car and yanked the hood release the handle came off in his hand preventing a quick opening of the hood ! When I got my '62 in '72 one of the first things I did was attached an extra set of wires on the latches to open the hood in an emergency.

Rick,
It is really interesting to check out the various classes that the 61 ran in, in the old days: B/MP, D/MSP, C/MP, F/MP.
Then later in S/ST, S/G, H/S. I don't know what these 3 classes are.
Can someone explain them?
Rick, do you have any information on the times the car turned over the years?
I lived in Norwalk, Ct. in the 60's and a friend and I were building a F Stock 57 Chevy wagon and bought some stuff from Moroso's, I believe from you dad?

Hi Rick and George. Love seeing those old pics of the 61. Hearing the history as George tells it is always a pleasure.
I like the pic with the blower sticking out of the hood. Funny how it looks just like mine.
