I just don't want to touch it until the adjuster has a chance to document everything.

Your insurance company should give you a bit extra in the check for going to so much effort to find the car, considering it probably dropped their out of pocket by mutltiple 10's of thousands if they had to pay for total loss.

congrats on getting it back!

Absolutely right! They should be bending over backwards to make sure anything in doubt gets replaced. Who knows how much abuse the engine, clutch, trans, rear end, suspension, brakes, etc. were put through- not to mention the paint/body damage. From the sound of it, the car was thrashed hard and they should be working overtime making sure everything is at least as good as it was before all this happened. That engine was wicked strong and the car was FAST.

I'm so happy you found your car! What a relief! I live in PG and drove my 53 Chevy in the Auto Rally. What an ordeal! Congratulations on finding it. I think you gave the textbook response - get the info out and turn the heat on!

I like seeing the pic/post of you both with those big smiles....

But I would've liked to have seen your big *** guns/arms wrapped around the Arsehole that swiped your car...

I knew (immediately), that it was our car! I was stunned!!! I never thought we would see the car again.

Your uncle stated that the only item he wanted for his reward was to drive the car around the block. Not only will he be able to drive around the block, but you will be able to drive it as well.

Then, at the very least I want to treat you guy's and your family members to a dinner of your choice at Original Joe's!!

The power of the internet, and specifically this Corvette Forum has proven to be the ticket for the return of our car.

Thank you to the both of you!!!

I'm still in shock (again)!!

I can only assume there was just too much heat surrounding this particular '62. This car was posted everywhere!!! Several newspapers as well as the Cruisin News of which Mr. John Sweeney graciously placed a half page ad to assist for the search of our Corvette!

Also, thanks go to all who assisted with posting and re-posting my threads throughout the internet world.

Of course none of this would be possible without the assistance of friends, and more specifically Les and Kathy Nunes for spending a vast amount of their time forwarding emails, contacting and conferring with several different agencies.

As for the car itself, it's actually in pretty rough shape. The thieves must have decided to use it as an off road vehicle. There are several scrapes, and damage under the vehicle itself. The car also has several visible scratches and scrapes around the entire body of the vehicle.

Bottom line is that it's great to have our Corvette back. There's nothing that can't be repaired on the vehicle. They did take our hardtop, so I'll be watching for that on the Craig's list site, as well as ebay.

I'll take some pics and post them up tomorrow.

Thanks again to all for your support and assistance.

Just as I used to say as a Fire Captain; Independently we are nothing, collectively we become a force that can overcome most all challenges!

It's due to the collective efforts of all here (friends and strangers alike), we were able to overcome what I thought was the impossible!

Thanks again,

Pat and Terry Monahan

Mr. ptjsk it might be a good idea to install a battery disconnect to prevent this from happening again.

namely in something like the trunk so they cant get at it without the key

along with maybe an alarm so that if someone opens up the hood without the key in it sets it off, which I think was actually an optional security thing you could have put on the C3's.

also did anyone dust for fingerprints in the cabin or the doors? as they might have left their prints on the car somewhere.

and has anyone checked Ebay for that top?

this wouldnt happen to be it would it?

as it IS IN SAN DIEGO!

Looks from the bid history that this one has been on EBay since prior to the theft. Good looking-out though.

Yes, a couple of good ideas. I will definitely be doing something to deter future theft.

Also, law enforcement didn't want to do prints as they said it had sat there too long and was probably touched by several people.

Furthermore, the hardtop caught my eye as well, but I did look it over closely and it definitely is not the one that was on my car.

I didn't catch the listing date though, so that was even more proof that it isn't it.

Thanks for the message,

Pat

you do not want anyone dusting for prints in your vehicle. period. that black graphite powder will never leave. i used that stuff for over ten years. we use to dump that powder
down defroster vents on pimps vehicles. jim

Congrats on getting your car back! So awesome.

A very simple and cheap anti-theft (or more like theft recovery) item I now do with my 62 is to lock my cell phone in the trunk if I'm leaving it unattended somewhere besides my house or place of work. My family uses an Android app called "Life360" which allows for tracking and locating your family members. So if I ever come out of the grocery store and the 62 is gone, I might have to borrow someone's phone to call the police or my wife, but at least I'll be able to track the car.

As for anti-theft... I've got a fuel pump switch under the dash, it's hard to start if you don't know what you're doing, and the average punk probably can't drive stick anyways. But that all doesn't mean much if someone shows up with a tow truck...

Congrats again on the recovery, beautiful car.

the best anti theft system is a German Shepard with a very bad attitude named Gator, i think that dog loved my car more than me. lol
