Engine Oil - Who uses what
My engine mechanic recently suggested that I change my oil out and replace it with "Brad Penn" Penn Grade 1 oil. SAE 20W-50. Contains lots of zinc that is supposedly good for anti-wear protection, etc... ??
This oil also advertises as a high performance oil made especially for Historic, Muscle, Classic, and Race car engines. It's partially synthetic.
It's also a little spendy, but... what's a few more bucks if it will protect and improve performance.
Any comments?

I live in So Cal and we don't have the brutal winters so I use Pennzoil HD (non syn) straight 30 weight oil, (SL rated) with a ZDDP additive in both my 327 and 409. In my daily drivers I use 10/30 mobil 1 full synthetic.

I use Brad Penn in my flat tappet cars. I started using it after some research on the web cast doubt on the effectiveness of the ZDDP additives. I get it at Summit.

Save your money. Shell Rotella 15W40 has everything you need. I've been using it in all my cars both big and small blocks for years with no issues.

I use Amsoil Zrod oil which is made for classic cars and it has the zinc needed for old engines etc. u don't have to worry about adding anything else!
I dont sell Amsoil but I use their Zrod oil, antifreeze, and brake fluid in both my cars. I was sold after I read about the products.

I was using Mobil Delvac but switched to Brad Penn after rebuilding my engine. I have a dealer about a half mile from me and pay $5.00 per quart, not that much more than diesel oil at Walmart.

WalMart CJ4 oil usually cost me $12.00 for a 1 gallon container.
That's considerably less the the "designer oils" (Brad Penn at $20.00 per gallon) which are no better then Walmart's products.

Mobil 1 DELVAC 1300 15W-40, have 2 qts left over after every oil change in the D'Max. I save those up and use them in the Vette and John Deere.

API.org specifically states "Use only the API recommended category: S for gasoline engines; C for diesel engines". Why is this not the way to go? My mechanic said old classic engines need the zinc...

Old classic car engines DO need zinc. That's why I use the Amsoil Zrod made for classic cars. Whatever oil you choose just make sure it has zinc in it for classic car engines...

Another Delvac user here. I've also used Shell Rotella, but my local store never kept it stocked so I switched to Delvac and haven't looked back.
