There are used equipment places in big cities. There have been tons of used stuff on the marked due to the economy...When I sold off my shop equipment a place in Miami sent a truck..I had to help load my brake lathe...man that sucker was HEAVY.
So check online or yellow pages..They also sell lifts, compressors etc,

Roy; I picked one up a few years ago on Craigslist and I see them occasionally on e-bay as well. Go into google images and put in Ammco brake shoe grinder and it will pop up a lot of items for sale that don't show up on e-bay. An absolute necessity to get perfect shoe fit.
Then you'll need one of these too!

I pulled it off the brake lathe and put it in my parts room. One of my parts suppliers reps showed up on a regular basis and I told him what happened. He was in the know. He told me to toss it, it was illegal to even have one even off the lathe by Cal OSHA.
Good call.
I tossed it. Cal OSHA showed up 6 months later looking for the arcer anywhere in the shop. The fine was $5000 if they found it anywhere.
I never had a problem without the arcer, drums all have a "max dia" cast into the drum rim. I am guilty of exceeding that by a few thousands to save a drum, but not much more. Drum brakes are self energising, champhering the leading edge of the primare shoe and secondary shoe.
The big deal back in the day (60s and early 70s cars) were "hard spots" on drums and rotors. Chatter over the hard spots was problem when turning either.

I have a brake lathe at my home for turning my own (and friends') drums and rotors. I don't think OSHA can touch you in your home, only if you have a business. Right?

Example:
Out here Cal OSHA HEAVELY regulates body shops for paint booth requirments, VOC emisions and all that jazz. You can't even buy modern automotive paint (BC CC, urathane, catalist and so on) without having a business and an OSHA approved paint booth. BUT there is no law that says you can't paint a car, they just make it ALMOST impossible to do so. I don't break the law, just figure ways around it.... I buy modern paint online from a place in Tennessee. I have painted several of my cars and bikes in my garage since i retired.

That is the coolest pic I have seen on the net. So true, nobody controls them. Morons for sure. OSHA did good things for safety in the past. But the little weenies they hire now are just stupid. They are full of themselves with power. My best friend owns a small engine shop, I have seen OHSA show up and inspect the 55 gallon barrels of drain oil and gas to see if they are mixed...WTF is up with that!!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
