Default 1965 L76 engine

Can anyone tell me why the 1965 Corvette with a L76 engine had a Holley List 2818-1 carburetor?

What is wrong with a 2818-1? It is all that's needed for the motor.

Because it was designed that way - what's the issue?

Do you have a date code for the carb. Depending on the date code, the 2818-1 is most likely a service replacement carb. If it was just a 2818, again depending on date code, it is more likely to be an original carb. The date code for a 65 should be a 3 digit number under the 2818-1? Is this the type information you were asking for?

I see this is your first post. Are you just testing the waters?

Here's one off an early '64. 3A3 = 1963; 3rd week of November. The date code without the dash were early '65s only. I've seen 2 examples of 482's [ August '64, 2nd week] (without the dash).
