Default "Quiet" side pipes..

..it seems that Sweet Thunder and Allens make/sell 'quiet' side pipes. Who can say which is quieter?
Does anyone have decibel readings for either?
Also, any experiences with spiral or cone shaped inserts to reduce noise levels?
Thx

What is the reason? I ask because if I wanted it truly quieter I would run a switch with pipes running out back, probably curved down behind where the stock holes would be so you can barely see them. The tech could be taken from c6 npp or other and just custom fitted. Boats have had similar technology for years too (I have corsa switchable on my boat)

This is an option that will work well vs maybe kinda work. Side pipes are loud partially from the location.

Like these??
These are Quick time electric cutouts with a crossover pipe. Ive been to a few shows now and no one has even noticed.

Why is the crossover pipe necessary?

The best thing about side pipes is they look so cool. There is not much to like after that.

The mesh cone inserts don't reduce the sound level by enough for the human ear to notice.

Spiral inserts do actually reduce the sound level significantly but whether or not they could be called "quiet" is a matter for the listener to decide.

My vintage racer (in avatar) has 3" side pipes with spiral inserts from Spiral Turbo Specialties. I have to run some kind of muffling to meet sound limits at area tracks and these get me by 99% of the time, even at Laguna Seca. (Laguna Seca has sound limits so severe that some factory stock, stone quiet street cars exceed their threshold). Jim at STS is easy to deal with and makes a good product.

They sure get quiet once the wedding cakes gone.

Default Exhaust Set-Up

What an incredibly nice set-up. I am soooo jealous!

I've been thinking of getting an H-pipe. From your experience, what are the pros and cons of installing one on a C-2? Thanks!!!

I have NEVER understood the reasoning behind having quiet side pipes. If I could get away with it, I'd run open headers all the time----------------------------but I don't care to pay for all the tickets.
So far, the locals haven't given me any grief with the T-bucket!

i bought the allens "super quiet" pipes. they sound awesome, nice mellow rap while accelerating. i could easily have a conversation with a passenger travelling 80mph with the top down.

I installed the H pipe primarily because I have the exhaust crossover ports on my intake manifold blocked off and without the H pipe I would have had to deal with that lousy popping sound usually heard when deccelerating. There are other benefits to using one. I'm sure someone else here will elaborate further.
