Have i milled down he steering wheel for the bottom spoke for a smaller C3 steering wheel correct on the hub?

Great Now that i have the hub milled down for the bottom spoke on the steering wheel it will be fun to see how the coupe looks with a smaller steering wheel and how it is to drive with this 14" or 15" steering wheel
I just have to blast and paint the hub first

Hey Roger. It looks correct in the photo. As long as the spoke drops into the milled area and you can tighten the screws fully you are set.

I was i bit worried that it would be little threads on the milled down are on the hub but not to worry because the screws for the steering wheel went down all the way without having to shorten them

milled hub
Seems like this project has been going on for awhile. Spoke with you sometime back about finding the correct hub. Found it much easier to make that 1/4" spacer, can barely see it, cost me 2-3 hours on the vice. Picked up a nice straight 69-74 wheel, had it covered by Pelton, and been driving it for months, love it, get-er-done!

fla-buckeye. You are right about the spacer so that is why i have the milling shop making me a spacer as well
It is just me that have been lazy when it comes to this.
If i wanted to i could have had the wheel on the car this winter
Dropped off the hub at a shop that does milling and got it back today
I paid around 25 dollars to have the hub milled down
I thought about having the spokes on the steering wheel milled out like they are on the original steering wheel but
decided not to in case the spokes looses strength. Perhaps i will mill out the spokes later

I know you like the wheel you bought, but I also know Chuck Pelton will not touch them. He says there is not enough structural rigidity in those wheels to hold up, so you might want to pass on taking material out of those spokes. I'm not sure there is any metal in the surround of those steering wheels. I did what I did, because I didn't want to pull my wheel from the splined shaft, which is what you are asking, no big deal, but with a spacer it's not needed.

I know of one member here on the forum that milled out the spikes and the steering wheel looks really good(see the pic below)
The steering wheel in a C3 below is the same as mine but with the spokes milled out
You can buy the steering wheel that have the spokes milled out at ebay and stores but is does not have a deep dish(see the picture to the right)

I took off the original steering wheel and put on a steering wheel in leather from a 1973 this afternoon
When i took off the original steering wheel off of the hub there is a shim there just as thick as the spokes on the steering wheel
If i had remembered the shim i would not have milled down the hub for the bottom spoke on thee newer steering wheel
I did put on the hub and original steering wheel back in 1993 but i can not remember that i put that shim there
Do not remember that i painted the inside of the hub either
Is this shim something you could buy some years ago(never seen any Corvette shop that sells this shim)so you could use the shim when putting on newer steering wheels?
Really easy to make a cut out for the bottom spoke on the shim below
