I thought they used the 53-55 body style but my memory was faulty. They mostly used the 4 headlight ones!

First time I've seen Route 66 "in color". The TV broadcast was always B&W.

This thread has odd timing and I find it particularly funny, but probably more one of those "you had to be there - inside joke" type funnies. My buddy and I were on the hot rod power tour all last week long hauling it from TX to NC and he told A LOT of people my car was one from the movie. People will believe anything. We mostly told people who didn't know what the car was. I think the stickers is what makes people think it's a famous car

I have the whole series on dvd but we've only watched up to the middle of the second season so far. I did watch every episode when it was originally out however, and they filmed in my home town once, during the first season.
Because GM was the shows sponsor, they had a new car each year. you'll also notice that most of the cars seen in driving shots are Chevys as well, as many of the set people also had them, and they were parked in various scenes. I believe the first episode used a 60 Corvette and the remainder of season one had a 61. each of the following seasons, until the final season in 64, had Todd driving the current model. I still remember the 63 season. even though I was only 13 years old, I thought it was just wrong that the writers had replaced the car that "Todds dad gave him" with a Sting Ray.

Heard a funny story about "Buzz" showing up at the directors office early in season one to report that he didn't think it would look right if he showed up on set every day in his new T-bird. he was quickly given a new Vette to drive by GM. years later he admitted that he hadn't even owned a car, much less a T-bird, at the time.

It may have been the black and white filming but pay attention to how lousy the paint looks from the side body line down on the C2 in that show

According to the copy I have of "Amazon.com: Customer Reviews, Route 66: The Complete Series" and what I viewde after taping the show every Monday at 3:00a.m. on RETRO TV, the FIRST time a '63 Vette appeared was Nov. 30, 1962. The title of that show was "Hey Moth, Come Eat the Flame" and was shown on 2/18/63. I've taped/transferred to DVD approximately 68 B&W shows

They used fawn beige 1961, 62 , then saddle tan 63, and 64. I think the 65 car was red.

Jim, please correct me if I am wrong but I remember one episode where they removed a rear wheel and rigged up a winch to pull a well pump. What was most interesting was it appeared to be a 61 or 62 big brake car. The finned drum was very evident.

I always found this very cool---one person's memories and pictures of when the show filmed in her hometown/gas station: http://www.ohio66.com/carlisle/westminster/

A simpler time for sure. Dramatic shows could be compelling and hold your interest without somebody hosed down with machine gun bullets or sexual escapades that your kids don't need to see in prime time

There was an oddball series also back then called "The Saint" (not the American series); it was in Spanish and B&W. It was dubbed in and showcased some whacko hero running around in a professional wrestler's outfit including full head mask righting wrongs and knocking out the bad guys. IIRC the hero's car was a '54 or '55 Corvette. I am sure I remember watching it repeatedly but can't seem to find any references to it anywhere.

I have watched all the shows on DVD. I remember when the 63 showed up and if I recall no one said anything. Like , "hey Buzz, where did that come from?"

I have also tried to find if any of the cars are around. I asked Terry at proteam and he said he had never seen or heard of any.

They did use beige because it was easier to film, less glare or something.

Milner took his family with him around the country in a Chevy wagon. Maharis left due to illness under some controversy the show was never the same. He is in his 80s now.

Milner has had a rough time - health and the death of his daughter.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's the episode where the car had wire wheels. I don't recall seeing the wire wheels on any other episode.

Neat little step back in time. Cool to click on the pictures and really check stuff out----like all the items on the shelf in the gas station.

Sorry, I should have also mentioned the main page http://www.ohio66.com/ has an index to a lot of shoot locations with then and now pictures.

Color my skeptical, but that looks like silver to me. I tried to track down where the cars went but it was impossible. They went back to GM and were sold off to the public. My fawn 62 came from around Hollywood and was first plated in 63 so I was hoping mine was one of them.
