Lizard skin, Dynamat, ????
I am ready to drop the body back on the frame on my 65. Now it gets exciting, what kind of insulation actually works the best from experience? I live in Arizona, (it's a dry heat) so I need to keep the cab cool. I have Vintage air to install. I am replacing all the stock insulation with new, but feel I need more. Thanks for the help.

For what its worth
I recently removed my dash and the rest of the interior to install foil faced hushmat. After reading many pro and con posts I decided to go for it.
All I can tell you is the heat difference IS significant. I drove three hours in the 85 degree weather on Saturday (in flip flops) and barely felt any heat coming from under the dash. I am sure there are better "R-value" solutions....but I am more than happy with the results. And more importantly...so is the wife!

I would look into lizard skin ceramic insulator spray. I used Cascade audio thermal spray on the bottom of floors and about half way up the engine side of the firewall. No drive time on the car but during engine runs the floors and firewall never get warm. I should sprayed the rocker channels since its a side exhaust car and the uncovered rockers do get warm.

I just did the 2 step process with Lizard Skin, I read up on the product, U tube also had some video's.
My car is currently in pieces and I can't give you the personal performance update, I think Lou 64 also did lizard skin and has been driving the car, you may want to send him a pm to get his feedback.

Go to this website: www.quietride.com and check out their pre-cut 2 stage insulation kits. Here is the Corvette catalog link:
http://www.quietride.com/catalogpdfs...te_catalog.pdf
1st stage is Dynamat extremem, then the 2nd stage is HeatShield insulation. The insulation is pre cut, patterned off of your exact vehicle, and come with everything needed for installation, Dynamat, HeatShield Insulation, 3M HeavyDuty 20 contact spray adhesives, and aluminum seam tape. I've installed a few of these kits, in an '89 Camaro for the Tv show MotorHead Garage, another in a 2012 Mercedes Sprinter 144 wheel base High roof cargo van, a 30 something chevy coupe (i forget which year), a 40something ford i don't remember what, a 57 dodge pick up, among a few others i cant remember. Awesome kits that make a HUGE difference in sound and especially heat reduction. They have molded, insulated firewall insulators too that appear stock, but are made out of much higher quality material and insulation than anything else out there. Everything from that company is made here in America, and made in their own production shop in Stockton Ca.

Lizard Skin is like 200 bucks all in all done. It is super easy to use and requires about 10 minutes of prep work (less if your dash and stuff is not in). However, it is more permanent than Dynamat, so keep that in mind for judging.

I used 80 mil Rattletrap on my '66 with great results. Used it not only on the floors but inside doors as well. Quieter and cooler.

I used lizard skin on both sides of the floor and the inside of the firewall. Also used some A/C thermal foil I picked up at home depot that's under the carpet. I have no complaints and my Vintage Air has no problem keeping up with the Texas heat.

Similar to Dynamat I went with Raammat, instead. Didn't care for the 'Dynamat' logo plastered all over their material. The front section (foot wells, under seats) was also covered over with the Home Depot 'Frost King' insulation. The combination appears to slow down under car heat transfer to the interior, but that's about it. Above 85+ degree outside temps, that goes away - the heat comes through.

You can make your own Lizard Skin, you just add ceramic micro spheres to any paint. I use rustoleum and apply with a roller.

I have Dynamat in 3 of my Corvettes, great stuff.
If you don't like the logo you can now buy black Dynamat but it still has a logo on it.
Buy it online, C1 and C2 Corvettes can be done for about $300.00.

Lizard Skin it is
First thanks to everyone for all the replies. I have decided to use the ceramic Lizard Skin for the heat on the underside of the body and Hushmat on the inside for noise. I will let everyone know the outcome. Should be done in 60 to 90 days and on the road.

Thanks for the post. Had not heard of these guys before. Always good to hear from a pro who knows how well a product works.
