I wouldn't discount that idea.
My 2011 Mustang GT gets "cold" air from near the ground, forward of the wheel well. The factory design is so good that most of the aftermarket uses the same ducting and enclosure.

Default I was curiously looking at this one also!

The idea is good, and I appreciate the engineering thoughts. I guess a good design can be worth about 10-15 net hp. Just observation, I think it can be bettered! I am having a problem with the foam tight to the better part of 2/3rd of the air filter.

PS I would reposition the coil!!!!!

The pic is misleading, the base is away from the filter about 1 inch and the foam overhangs the edge of the base some. I have no way of knowing if creating more space would make any difference. When I mocked everything up the first time I took into consideration how far out over the engine I thought the base should go and stopped as is. The coil is no higher than the top of the distributor, so relocating it wouldn't improve anything. Dennis
